Hi. I have been having a problem with Roxio lately. I made just need to reload. In the mean time, I have been considering using WMP 10 to rip and burn music. I create original music and want to send out the highest quality possible. I would like to find out whether WMP 10 rips and burns at the same quality as Roxio. From what I understand, CDs contain 1,411 Kbps and WMP 10 cannot rip at that quality. Roxio's CD Copier and Creator can make exact clones. Would it be better for me to use Roxio or some other software for best quality?
Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Harry

1) If your ripping music to MP3 format then use a program called Exact Audio Copy. It has proven to be the best for making excellent sounding MP3's while using little hard disk space as possible. This guide will tell you everything you need to know = http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/mydeneaclame.cfm

Exact Audio Copy can also create WAV files which are the highest sounding quality you can get. But be aware that it uses alot of hard drive space.

2) For burning music use Nero. It is by far the best. I found Roxio to be a pain in the ass software and Windows Media Player doesn't have enough advanced features such as setting gap delay between tracks.

3) For playback use WinAmp. Nothing beats it. WinAmp official website = http://winamp.com/

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Hey Weaz,

Thanks for the info. What I am gathering from all of this is that Windows Media Player does not burn wav files unless cdas are same quality. I am not interested in burning MP3s since the quality is inferior to 44.1/16 bit CD quality. Do you know if Nero extracts wav files? I have Sonic Foundry's (now Sony) Sound Forge which extracts wav files but I didn't think WMP would then burn wav files. I would prefer to just use one program if possible, which I used to do with Roxio's CD Copier and Creator until I got the blue screen of death. I have a copy of Nero that I have never loaded, so I will probably just load that and get rid of Roxio.
Thanks again.

You can cut it down to 2 programs. Use Exact Audio Copy to extract to WAV and then Nero to burn the WAV filed to cd.

EAC can burn audio files to CD as well, but I too usually use nero

you sound like your interested in keeping to good quality so go with the EAC/Nero method for your CD's. Dont compromise just so you can use one program - it aint worth it most of the time.

Thanks for the advice. I will load Nero and get Exact Audio Copy. It's about time I got away from Roxio.

Cheers!
