There are several sorts of Aspect ratio's, like:
16:9 1.85
16:9 2.35
4:3 1.33

Playing a (copied) DVD movie on a Normal TV set (4:3) with an aspect ratio of 1.85 gives me almost full screen. But playing a 2.35 movie I have only about 50% of the screen filled (rest is black strokes).

I've been trying for about 20 times yesterday to convert a 16.9 2.35 movie to 16.9 1.85. I guess it's not that simple !
I used DVDpatcher.

Does anyone have a solution to this prob. or use another program or...whatever helps me ?!?

16:9 1.85 and 2.35 are actually the same format. In other words, the video is ready to play on a widescreen of without looking squashed or stretched, it is just that the manufacturer decided that there was stuff on the edges worth seeing. All films are pretty much recorded in 2.35 originally, which is in itself a ratio to 1. This is usually referred to as letterbox, you get all the original on the screen, but the movie has large black bars top and bottom. 1.85 is the closest thing to a normal widescreen television, but is quite a way from a normal TV

Normal TV : 1.33
Widescreen TV : 1.77
Film : 2.35

Most Widescreen TVs will stretch the image from 1.85 to 1.77 without much distortion, but to get the same stretch effect from a 1.33 (4:3) televsion will not be possible without making the image really wierd. You will be stretching the image by a third vertically. Even Danny De Vito would look tall then !

If you want to fiddle with these settings, try processing in TMPGenc. Use the Advanced tab after clicking the settings button. Select the correct source, then select the appropriate video arrange method, which can be customised to the nearest 2 pixels if you want! Just click on clip frame and load up your movie to display the options and pick the one you like the best.

Basically though, you will lost a fair amount of the movie from the sides, or you could be squashing it.

Good luck

Paul.

Thanks for your reply !

That's about the answer I expected.
Did try some progs (about 15 times) but the outcome was allways strechted out or distored.

Well it was worth a try.....I know what to do !
Just buy me a WideScreen TV that's all.

Thanks anyway...
