I am not a pro at this but have been very successful backing up dvd's by using DVD Decrypter to rip, then DVD2One to process and finally Copy2DVD to burn my DVD. I started off using Memorex and found out the hard way that they are crap and switched to Verbatim. I purchased a 100 pack spindle and only 2 out of 100 that I backed up did'nt work (disc would pause or skip). So I bought another 100 pack and every single burn has had errors. For example, when I back up Polar Express, everything from rip to burn runs with no errors. But I play the disc, it will pause and stop at different chapters. I have made 3 back ups of Polar Express and each time, the error will occur at different chapters. Since then I have used DVD Identifier to check the Verbatim dvd and the info comes up exactly the same for the my first Verbatim spindle as well as the new one I just bought. I went ahead and made sure I was using the most current version of each software and defragged my hard drive. Still having the errors. I thoguth then maybe it was Polar Express but have had same errors with several different movies. If anyone has any info or advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Happy Turkey Day!!!

A little more information will be needed to help you out. First what speed are you burning at 4X is always a safe speed to burn at. Second what burner are you using. I would reccomend going to the manufactor website and using the brand of media they reccomend. For example I have a sony dru710 rebagged lite-on. I use verbatum +R 8X media (mcc003). Using neuro disk quality tests you can see the errors go up the faster you burn not much diffrence between 4 and 6X but 8x the errors go threw the roof. I have also used Maxell & Tiyo Yuden both look very good burning at 4 and 6X. Now all of these test will vary depending on what make drive you have and the media you use. I can personally say I like Verbatum. But Verbatum does not always work well for all burners. One other thing I always clean the original dvd that your ripping. Also you have to experiment with set top dvd players some like +R some like -R some will play both. If you can book type your +R disks to dvd-Rom that will help playing in most set top dvd players. Personally I have found that the Apex dvd player will play just abought anything you put in them.

Good Luck

What device is showing these issues: Stand alone player,pc dvd-rom drive, or PC DVD-RW drive? If on a stand alone, verify them by viewing them on your pc DVD-RW drive, the drive that produced those backups. It should play it flawlessly!Mainly view the area where the pausing and skipping occurs.

Compression can be a factor as well.
Do you backup entire disc or main movie only?

Which verbatim discs? Give us the MID code from the first 100 pack spindle and the present spindle you are on. Maybe that code changed.Cmags are being reported on the newer verbs. This takes a terrible hit for verbatim quality now, UGGH!

What is the brand name and model# of that DVD-RW drive?
How fast did you burn them?
Can you verify those polar express backups on other stand alones to see how they react to them?

Your stand alone player may also need a lens cleaning. They do have a harder time reading backups over time. It'll start with the pausing and as time goes by,gets worse. This lens cleaning is what I consider as a last resort before a replacement.
