In the past I did have a problem with the DMA being off.
Link to that post: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/238214
In that post I was pionted here http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm for how to fix the DMA to ON. That worked great, it fixed my speed problems.

The problem I have now is not as bad with the speeds. Its to do more with one DMA being off in my log now.

=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y120L0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On
DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y120L0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2 atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : JLMS XJ-HD166S atapi Port 3 ID 1 DMA: On
CdRomPeripheral : SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM 2.7a Vax347s Port 4 ID 0 DMA: Off

How can I fix that? As you can see from the images below, it all looks good (to me anyway).

What it is, is when I burn I see the time remaining being something like 3:30 min.-sec. I see that run down, then the time remaining jumps back up. To something like 2:20 min.-sec. So total time would be 5:40, not the 3:30 it should have taken to burn.

So I did what I was told to do from the link above to turn ON the DMA. This did not fix the one DMA being off (this time). But it looks OK from the images above.

Thats why I come to AfterDawn expert help to work this out.
Here is the Nero Log w/1 DMA OFF and w/remaing time jump:

- that's fine, it's one of those virtual drives, can't remember which software that belogs to though - DMA not needed for that..

- wow 16x speed, that's the only thing wrong in your log. most ppl stick to 4x, and only 8x if their system/burner/media/standalone players can cope with 8x burns...

I wanted to try Alcohol 120%, so that must be what it is.

I dont know but I like to burn as fast as I can. More time for other things Im working on. I have not yet had any problems burning at 16x. Thats with data and movies. The only time I did have a problem is with some Memorex DVD+r's. So I now use Verbatim DVD+r's for everything.

creaky:
Thanks for passing your knowledge on so that are life is more fun.
