Hi wonderful intelligent people! Hopefully I won't confuse you too much with my scenario. I don't have a cd or dvd burner, so when I want to burn something, I take my notebook next door and use their dvd burner. In view of that, if there's something I need to add regarding the program, then I need to go next door to get the info.
The problem both of us are having is Nero freezing up during the transcoding of dvd's. 3 of the 4 progress counters keep running, but the one on the top right stops (sorry, don't have the program in front of me, so I'm going from memory here). Some will freeze at 20secs, some won't freeze for an hour. Some will get to within secs of finishing transcoding, and then stop. If I hit the abort button, nothing happens. The only way I can stop it is to kill it through task manager. If we've used the burn at once option, the disk won't eject from the drawer. This problem doesn't occur all the time, only with some .avi files. Other .avi files burn fine! I tried to burn 4 disks yesterday, and 2 burnt, and 2 froze during transcoding, both at different stages. Once a file freezes, I cannot get it to work, regardless of what I do with it, so it usually ends up getting deleted.
Here's what I know about my friends set up. Desktop PC was brand new 5 months ago. It's running XP Home SP2, with 256 RAM. The program is Nero Vision Express 3, version 3.1.0.7.
I've spent the last few hours sifting through the messages, and while I found posts regarding freezing, I couldn't find one specific to my problem. I noticed that people are adding log files. Where would I find that, so I can add it here, if you think it would help.
I am a total nong when it comes to computers, so please bear with me if I ask stupid questions, or don't know what you're talking about. I know the absolute basics, but have no idea what you're on about when you're talking ISO and other stuff like that. Best thing is to explain to me like you would someone who has never seen a computer before!
I hope this is enough info to at least give an idea what the problem is. I'm heading next door soon, so I will be able to get log files or whatever else you may need.
Thank you in advance for your time and patience.
