Well i just got my dvd burner from newegg (which came overnight with the cheap shipping). However i do have a few questions.
1. Which firmware is the best?
2. I wanna do 1:1 backups of my dvd's. Is dvd decrypter the best way to do this? If so how do i booktype.
3. Wats the benefit of q suite? and do i use it with dvd decrpyter?

1. The latest
2. If you mean homemade DVDs, Nero. If you mean storebought DVDs, scroll up to the "Software Discussions" forums and read about a few. There's not a unanimous agreement on which is "best" - you'll have to decide which gives you good results & which you're comfortable using. I generally use PatinCouffin0.19, DVD43, DVDShrink3.17, & Nero6. Shrink has a checkbox for booktype.
3. Dunno.

I plan to order 1 or 2 of those 740s in the next few weeks.

QSuite allows your drive to 'learn' different makes of discs to maximize burning quality. It will also allow you to test write before actually burning .. you can also set your booktype with QSuite so that you don't have to bother setting the booktype with any program that you use. You can also enable overburning ... There is also a utility that allows the burner to actually adjust the laser's burning power ...

If you want to make 1:1 copies, you'll be using DL discs .. Use Nero and allow QSuite to booktype everything you burn

Nero will not burn copies of copy protected DVD's. Go do some reading in the Shrink forum. It is near the top of the AD forums home page.

I use AnyDVD and Nero for DL backups and if you're making 1:1 copies, it's not necessary to shrink the files ...

For some reason, Nero makes better copies than DVD Decrypter with DL discs

And if you set QSuite for booktyping, it doesn't need to be set on any program since the drive itself booktypes with QSuite
