Yes, and No, rolg, Yes it's an update to Nero to correct problems; and No it doesn't fix them all ;)

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

Nero Version: 7.0.0.0 (Nero Express)
- i think the latest update is (still) 7.0.1.2, from here - http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php

Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 400c> Version: FH04
- newer version of your firmware is here, 'KH27' - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1726 that's the latest firmware HOWEVER that's a year old now..it's gonna have trouble recognising some newer discs
Quote:
Physical memory : 511MB (523564kB)
Free physical memory: 36MB (37712kB)
Memory in use : 92
- you gotta close down more programs prior to dvd work/burning to free up more memory, you've got none left. 512MB is sufficient total memory but something's used it ALL.

Recorder: HP DVD Writer 400c, Media type: DVD+R
- the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's CMC but it's an example) of what it should look like, ie you should have a 3line paragraph similar to this when your bank discs are recognised -
Quote:
Recorder: DVDRW IDE1004, Media type: DVD-R
Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AE1
Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193
- ie your burner can't recognise those blank discs. if the newer firmware update doesn't solve it, you need to either try different discs (and hope the burner's firmware recognises them, or at worst, buy a newer burner

NO you cannot ask for serial numbers. persevere with Nero. if you got it legally you just need to sort it out. you get something like a month's trial anyway so it's not like you can't use it.

try looking thru this - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262603 if that doesn't work then you need to talk to Nero again, or whoever you purchased it from.
