Hi. been running bearshare for about a year with broadband and getting good speed (5mb about 6 mins)
Son just got new router.
Bearshare would not work. Tried limewire no luck. Someone suggested torrents. got azureus and had nat error.
Looked for solution.
saw port forwarding etc.
Told son but his mate who installed router did not want to do this.
He downloaded windows VNC
can now connect to bearshare and azureus on port 9881 but the speed on both is wores than dial up. Currently <1 kb/s on azureus !!!
My questions are
what does VNC do that allows connection?
Is this a backdoor fix to port forwarding
IS it reason for slow download speeds?
Should i still open up port 6881 for Azureus
I prefer bearshare (its easier) what port would i open for this ?Could i run it through 6881 too?

I really dont know what vnc is all about, I took a quick look, and I dont think its ur problem. It seems like u are using old port numbers. Are u still using Azureus or just bearshare?. DO NOT use 6881 for anything it's outdated and blacklisted. Try using higher numbers ie: 50000+, eg; 51242. I only D/L w/ torrents, but my girlfriend uses limewire pro and I config. it just the same as my torrents (different port #'s tho). I get GREAT speeds on both. Make sure ur ports are forwarded correctly for ur router and firewall, if this is'nt done correctly ull go nowhere fast. Please read the threads at top of page on how to do that. Let me know how it works out 4 ya!, hope this helps ;-D
