Hello.
I might be interested in buying a PSP. I'm already downloading a package with 35 PSP games, along with Fastloader 0.7.
I would just like to get a verification that everything will work, since PSP isn't the cheapest of item you'll find.
I was thinking on buying PSP GIGA pack, which includes a 1 GB memory stick. According to this image (http://www.verkkokauppa.com/productimages/orig/28964_01.jpg), it is PSP-1003 G1, and I checked from the Internet that it contains firmware 2.0 out of the box.
Does Fastloader 0.7 work with Sony PSP firmware 2.0 (possibly also 2.01 or was it 2.1)? Or is version 0.8 out yet?
So just to see I got this right:
I need to buy the Sony PSP GIGA pack (includes a fitting memory stick, and an USB data cable for PC access), and then plug the memory stick into the PSP, and the USB data cable to my PC.
The next step would be to copy all four folders (ISO, ISOMISC, ISOSPLIT & PSP) to the memory stick, and then place ISO games to the ISO folder, right?
What next? Turn on PSP and it works automatically? Can choose ISO games to be played? Do I need the EU version (which I reside in) of the games or will US versions work as well? I have no intention on getting Japanese versions since I don't know the language.
If there's anything else I should know, I'd be happy to hear it now than later.
Thanks!
- Sam
PS. I heard you might need an UMD disc to be in the PSP in order for the Fastloader to work. In the GIGA pack, there is a UMD demo disc coming with it; will it work with it?

First off I wasnt aware that there were that many Games outside of Japan muchless the USA. There might be what Twenty (or so), Games here in Europe at the moment. In anycase if you think you can't afford it perhapps you should consider either getting a chaeper NDS till you get older and have a Job. Or just chill out ans save like the rest of us. I still don't have GTA, either. Yep ?50.00(EUR), is a lot of spread when you still gatta eat. But, that does not justify riping other People off!
Now as to whether or not this could work?!
That mostly depends on which PSP? you happen to pick up. And moreover when you decide to pick it up! The current stock of Euro stock v1.52's are probably history (or will likely will be shortly!), So I wouldn't hold much out for that. As you're likely to get hold of a v2.0. Which is still avalible, but, I don't see to many of these either. But, should you be luck enough to get one you could still downgrade it.
But, I really hopeing you get either a v2.01, v2.50 or v2.60 (or higher),. Allof which will force you to buy the Games. Which is a good thing in that the PSP? needs your support! Save the Warez'ing for the XBOX? or the PC. Microsoft? has Money to burn!

and $ony doesnt have money to burn !!?
lolz...Ichijoe must work for Sony :p JK !
one way to look at is PSP unit sales would never be the way they currently are without the homebrew scene. People are finding out about homebrew and emus and are saying "I gotta get one !!"
And there truly are people who want to play isos. of UMDs they own(yes it does happen!) UMDS are pretty fragile, playing them off a memstick saves battery power due to no moving parts being required :)
anyway, Sam70 - to answer your question, unless you get a 2.0 which you will need to DOWNGRADE, you will NOT be able to play any of that illegal warez you are downloading ! Please be careful when you are downgrading, and make sure you back up your current firmware. read up on it and track down the instructional videos, because if you mess it up, you'll brick your PSP before youve even had any fun on it !!
Also fastloader is OLD. The most recent and now final versiom of that program is called UMD Emulator 8.0c - this needs a UMD in the drive to run games.
Another handy app is the "device hook boot" which allows you to run some games without the UMD at all :)
I highly recommend you get a 1.5. These are only available from online sellers and places like ebay. With a 1.5. you can always very easily upgrade to 2.0 etc if you really want to.
1.5 > all

Thanks guys.
I'm soon about to buy 1.5 from an online auction site; the package also includes a 512 MB memory stick, and an USB data cable.
Got it, I have now downloaded UMD Emulator V0.8C, which includes:
PSP
UMDEMULATOR
Shall I first format the memory stick with my PSP, then copy over these folders to the root of the memory stick?
Next step? Turn PSP on with UMD in, and UDM Emulator will kick in automatically?
That's great!
Will EUR, JAP and USA games work with it? Is there any risk with firmware 1.5 and UMD Emulator V0.8C to brick the PSP? Does it write anything to the flash?
I don't think it's neccessary to use any software to move the ISO to the ISO folder? But I have PSP Homebrew 9, will it suffice?
Additional questions; how to browse the Web with the PSP? At our residence we have 802.11b, which is also supported by PSP. Do I need any extra software to use a "standard" Web browser to browse the Web with the PSP? Will it send some identification to Sony and they'll come bust me? :$
Thanks for all the answers! PSP, here I come! ;)

As far as I heard, the Games are nor Region Coded. However that could be something that the Game Dev's could opt in for, latter on. The Movies however ARE REGION CODED!!
But, even as they are I wouldn't pay ?19.99(EUR), for a UMD Movie when I can get the DVD for that much, no even cheaper. And just use PSP9 to rip it to my MemoryStick?!! Perhaps when those things reach something attaining good value for Money lets say ?10.00(EUR), for those new Blockbusters and something like ?5.00~8.00(EUR), for everthing eles. Then we'll talk.
But, even then, I can't see investing much time or cash in UMD Movies. At least the DVD (such as it is), still has about Ten (or so), Years lef in it. but, what happens once the PSP? dies off a it eventually must?!?

Again, thanks.
As always, buying a new PSP would be better than an used one. So I was thinking that maybe it isn't so bad to buy a 2.0 and then downgrade to 1.5, having read the guide on these pages (Downgrade PSP v2.00 firmware to v1.50).
Can anyone with 2.0 or older firmware confirm that this actually worked (also if on EU version) and what is the "code" on the PSP box. On the GIGA pack, it was PSP-1003 G1, and it turned out to be 2.0 according to people selling it on eBay.
I could buy the Value Pack (white PSP), if that's 2.0 or less. Then of course we have shops all around downtown, so I could go to them and browse their selection of PSP, looking for the boxes, and if the required "code" comes up, either for 1.52, 2.0 or even 1.5 (best-case scenario); it would be wonderful!
So, the codes, please.
Thanks!
PS. You mentioned that one could take a back-up of the original firmware? How is this done, and will it prevent me to make a brick out of my PSP?

Solong as you can get a v2.0 or less you can then either update it to v2.0 and then downgrade. Or just simply download from v2.0. The Downgrader only works with v2.0. Beacuse non of the v1.xx Firmwares have the ability to display anything but, *.jpg's and *.png's. So that's One reasion there to target a v2.0 to start with.
Once you do manage to get your PSP? downgraded should you decide to use a Firmware Changer, in order to play v1.5x Games on v1.50. You should rerun that Firmware Changer again to reset the version back to v1.50 and then you can safely update back to v2.0 though a UMD Demo Disc or though a downloaded version, of the EBOOT.PBP File...

Come again? The last part of your reply was something I couldn't understand. Well, when I get to 1.5, there's no need for me to go to newer versions, before we have emulators that support them (e.g. UMD Emulator 0.9 or even 1.0).
That was the question I had in mind right now. So when on 1.5, and a new emulator comes out that supports latter firmware, I can then just update to that, update the emulator on the memory stick and play? Shall this be called progress?
How many games exactly work on the firmware 1.5? I mean, doesn't all the new games require a latter version to work?
Thanks!

1. All the HB WILL WORK.
2. You CANNOT use HB like fastloader with 2.00+.
3. FASTLOADER will NOT run by itself you have to run it yourself.
4. The only games that require 2.00+ are GTA, SOCOM and HUSTLE.
I was told to change my sig so I did this.

To clearify that last part again....
Some Games (Original UMD Games), I do hope you have the intention fo picking some up as well. Might requrier you to have a higher Firmware version then say v1.50. Since the Two Bundeld Games in my Vale-Pak where v1.50 compatible this was (and is), not a big deal.
but, recently having pick up a copc of Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex for the PSP? I was requested to update back up to v2.0. Thuss steps in the Firmware Version Number Changer. Basicly the Program will cause the PSP? to report haveing a higher version then what's installed. Upshoot beeing that you don't get the Nag Screens telling you to update when you wouldn't need to otherwise.
Now in the case of the Newer Games: GTA:LCS, SOCOM, Crash TTR, et-al, which require you to really have v2.0 (or higher), installed. A Firmware Changer will not be of any help to you whats so ever. Assuming you may have used a Firmware Changer in the past. And you just picked up GTA (let's say),. It's possible that you could have Screen coruptions in that all the Text fails to display. The workaround is to rerun such Firmware Changers and reset the Proper Firmware version (i.e. v1.50), and then update...
BTW: Homebrew only loves v1.0 and then sometimes v1.50. (Thanks to the kxplote v1.50 has about as much support as v1.0 but then the v1.0 doesn't need a 'NGB%' Folder with a second Eboot.pbp File either...)
But, as of this moment that last thing you need to worrry about is if an Emulator might prefer a higher Firmware. At the moment nothing works above v1.50 save a simple v2.0 exploite that can run a handfull of Homebrew, and that's it.
v2.00 v2.01, v2.50 and v2.60 **CAN NOT** run any Homeberew and **or** *.iso Loaders....
