Hi anyone who take time to look at this,
Right what I want to know is this?. now for xmas my wife has just brought me an PSP & I have managed to have a look at it, and it's a ver 2.01 now I have read loads on this forum about upgrading & downgrading how safe is it to downgrade & is it safe or will I just have a peace of nice shiny black plastic,
Other people say you can?t do ver 2.01 some say you can also I have read that you can?t muck it up on a downgrade how true is this
now i'm very new to this forum so any help would be nice & any comments

Care to post Links to any of those nuts who said you could downgrade a v2.01 I could use a laugh at there expence right now!
To put it succinctly, you can not downgrade anything above v2.00! So no your v2.01 is higher then v2.00, as is v2.50 and now v2.60. All of which can not run anything but the original S0NY Software. (i.e. UMD's?)
As for v2.0 some People have reported it has beeing Hacked. This is plain BS! As the Hack that these 'People' were refering to was the now nearly Three Month old MPH Downgrader. While you can with a lot of patience run some Homebrew on v2.0. You can NOT run everything, and *.iso Loaders are not even close to working in (or on) v2.0 either.
So you might want to try seeing if you can take it back and hope that they give you a proper v2.0. But, with things as they are, and the understanding that S0NY? are only shipping PSPs' with Firmware v2.01 or Higher to Retail. The chances that your still going to get lucky are growing slimmer by the Hour(s) till the big Day...

Just picked mine up today. has v2.0.1 also. i was a bit gutted to say the least. but i'll be fucked if im taking it back (that tw** in the shop told me it was v2 aswell) never mind.
i think i'll wait for someone to figure out how to downgrade 2.5 then i'll upgrade and then downgrade. maybe next christmas :)
it is a shame.
i honestly believe sony release the early consoles. knowing that they have "security" issues. so that they can get loads of peeps reading about it and rushing out to buy it. then they jap you with the f*ing updates. good business tactics really.
anyway ill have the ps3 in spring to keep me occupied

Raven that hardly makes sense, if they did that and nobody upgraded they'd never sell another game again, except for all the GTA kiddies out there lol.
Ichijoe, read about this when it first came out, they're getting closer bro. http://www.psp-hacks.com/2005/11/27/20-required-games-on-150/ ofc no gta until they sort that codec out methinks...

i didn't mean it like that. sony doesnt need people to upgrade
if it forces all the new peeps (the ones that are buying it because theve heard all this news about playing iso's / homebrew)
to have the new un hackable versions

CONCLUSION:
CAn only play Homebrew on 1.00 and 1.50
CannOT play HB on 1.51, 1.52, 2.00 (but there is an ebootloader), 2.01, 2.50 (but they have started to crack it), 2.60
Can downgrade from 2.00 to 1.50, no more no less.
Downgrading is perfectly SAFE if you do ir correctly or you will get bricked.
Homebrew is home-made games, emulators, appz.
using homebrew will make you miss out on
1. The official web browser (but there are homebrew ones)
2. GTA, SOCOM and HUSTLE
3. LocationFree
4. AVC COdec
5. TKIP WLAN encryption
6. "security enhancements" (cough)
7. Official support on BMP, TIFF, PNG, WAV, WMA (though found in homebrew)
8. Official support on Backgrounds and Wallpapers (though in HB)
Using HB has benifits:
1. HB Games
2. appz
3. Emulation
4. ISO Loading
5. youre more cool and uber1337 than youre pansy n00b FW2.50 friends
I was told to change my sig so I did this.

To be honest i think ill upgrade to 2.60 the hole point of having a psp is to play the assigned games for it e.g GTA which is a brilliant game and not just for kids. People who want to downgrade are just finding away to save money which is pointless because they are showing no loyalty to PLAYSTATION!

i see iso's as a free rental service (which is how it should be)
if i like a game i buy it if i dont i delete it and try a new one
same thing i do with music and my ps2 games
simple as
am very royal to playstation i had playstation, psone, playstation 2, pstwo, and now the psp, and ill be getting a ps3
also the added bonus of free progs (home brew) is worth it and isn't really classed as saving money as they are free anyway

I also see it as free rental. you TRY the games, see if you like em. Delete and buy. Rental at the video store costs $6. I could have bought candy!

At the moment you can not downgrade anything higher then Firmware v2.00. Seeing that Firmware v2.01 is higher then v2.0. No you can not Downgrade yet. It's that simple...
Or is it?!?
Some Guy released a Save Game 'Ploite for GTA, that some others are trying to workin into a Loader / Downgrader. Since this is all still takeing place in the "User-Space" (like v2.0), the same rules apply. No greater then 64Kb's. No Kernal access (i.e. No ISO's!),. There may be a good chance for a Downgrader though.
The Sticky point is, you'll need to own an orgianl copy of GTA:LCS to execute the 'Ploite.
If this indeed pans out then all you v2.00, v2.01 and v2.50 People should be able to downgrade soon. v2.60 People need not apply!!

if they make a downgrader (which i wouldnt mind them doing)
you wouldnt need to buy GTA you could rent it from blockbusters, downgrade then take it back
i rented it last night just to check out the tetris, which if anybody wants to know, is a poor version of tetris (i had the same l piece for about ten minutes)
but at least its a start

yes you do, and some of those ask you to upgrade before you can play the game you bought (burnout being one). That said, I have a mate who bought a 1.50 with a 1 Gb stick and Burnout. he was warned not to upgrade already so waited til somebody else supplied him with a couple of games and the emulator. one of the games was burnout, and guess what. the emulator plays burnout fine. go figure :-)
game on

icemaker, you're full of shit. If there was a downgrader to 2.0 it would be all over the many different forums. It's very convenient that you didn't leave a link on your post

There isnt a way to downgrade but there is some homebrew available, very little i know but there is some. Do not upgrade higher than what you have got, it would only make the situation worse. Its a tetris game. Check it out here:
http://www.psphacks.net/content/view/431/
I think it may use the gta hello world hack. Also there is a gta cheat device out for 2.01 which you could also class as homebrew.
