Backing up PS2 games (yes, I've been searching)

This is my first post, so I will try to keep the noob level down. And yes, I have been searching and found a wealth of information here so I will try not to ask the step by step question. I did find the stickies at the top of the forums to have alot of answers. "For God's Sake" I did read those ;-)
But I do have a question... As I understand it from searching, my blue disc PS2 games (not many) are CD Roms and my silver disc are DVD, correct? So since most my games are silver, I need blank DVD discs (I have Philips DVD+R now).
I don't have the PS2 flip top / Swap Magic, but understand I need that to play back up PS2 games if I don't go the modded route.
However, I am practicing backing up a PS2 disc now to see if I get the hang of it. I am using CloneCD which was recommended in some threads. But on the company website, I see a CloneDVD software. Do I need that or will CloneCD let me back up the DVD game and write to my blank DVD?
Lastly, is there anyway to tell if my backup worked without having the modded PS2 or Swap Disc? I realize I can't play it, but I would like to know if there is a way I can read the file in My Computer to see if it worked?

Firstly all you need to back up a ps2 game is using DVD Decrypter. I will edit this post write after i eat and i will tell you how to do it. Till later

Ok, Hello I have made this guide to help you on how to succesfuly straightly burn a ps2 game. This guide was made for the newbies who don't know how to use dvd decrypter. This guide includes pictures to also help even the noobiest of the noobiest.
Requirments:
[boldDvd Decrypter - Can be Downloaded from this site. Just Click Software.
Dvd Burner - Make sure it can burn the dvd r's your using.
METHOD
UpLoading The PS2 ISO to Your HardDrive:
1) Firstly, Install Dvd Decrypter, after it has finished installing, double click the Dvd Decrypter Icon at your desktop. After you open it, it will show a loading sign than this will show.
2) Next, Put in your PS2 Game and let it load up. It will show the information on the right on whats on the ps2 disc. Next Press Mode>ISO>Read, and it will show this.
3) Next, Put the destination of the ps2 iso, preferbally in a folder named of the game.
4) After thats all done, Click Read button. Sit Back and wait till its finish uploading.
Burning The PS2 ISO to the Blank DVDR
1) Now Go back to dvd decrypter and Press Mode>ISO>Write.
2) Next Click the folder looking icon and search for the ps2 iso you just made and highlight it and press ok.
3) Next Put in your Dvd R into your dvd writer drive. Wait till it loads and choose the write speed. Preferbally the half speed of the disc (E.G. Dvd-r 8x, Burn at 4x). Next Click Burn. Again sit back and wait till it finishes burning. After its done, take it out and test the game. If it doesn't work. Do either of these steps:
Rebuild The ISO - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/259416 - (Guid By Me)
If you burned the iso at 1x and it didnt work. Burn it at a higher speed.

Thanks... I do already have DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 and saw somewhere the step by step. But if you could post your way, I'd appreciate it.
I tried a practice back up of SW Battlefront II with CD Clone, but like I said, I do not have Swap Magic or anything else to play it on the PS2 to see if it worked.
I did check my DVD that I wrote to and there are a bunch of folders/files on it.
I'd still like to know if there is anyway to know if it backed up properly. In other words, once I order the flip top / Swap Magic, I would know if it will work.

Don't know why you would burn games and don't have anything to boot them up that's a waste of time lets say you burn these games and when you do get swap magic or a modchip the games don't load ??? guess what your going to have to burn them over again on different media but if you must go to this thread

I understand what you are saying. I am one of those people who hate dealing with computers, etc. Buying something then getting the headache of trial and error til I get it right. And with backing up PS2 games, it seems very simple to follow the instructions, but seems many say they have problems.
And I am not burning "games." I want to try one game, see if I do it right. I haven't ordered Swap Magic yet, but I think I will do so tomorrow. Of course once it gets here, I will know if it worked or not.
I was just curious if you could easily tell by looking at the contents on the DVD to see if the files needed copied and if it would indeed work when the time comes.

how's it going ive tried using dvd dycrypter, it reads the ps2 game grand but when i go to write it, it just stays at 0%,
when i tried Alcohol 120 it reads grand again, then i go to write and it says the discs not big enough even though theres more than enough room?
any help would be really apriciated!

Don't know, I have to wait until the fliptop / Magic Swap disc get here.
I just did the read/write in Decrypter and it said sucessfull, but not sure if it will play. That is why I originally wanted to know if there was anyway to know if they'd work or not.

I tried to rebuild FIFA 06 using the rebuild method, however I encountered an error when I got to the CD/DVD Generator part upon extracting. I think it read "Unreadable Sector", or something like that... I clicked retry, but I kept getting the message... Eventually I was forced to click "Ignore All" prior to being allowed to continue... Everything else went as planned afterwards, but the new ISO file is about half the size of the original, leading me to believe that it won't work... I'm burining it now as I type and I plan on testing it out in a lil while... Now, the real question is, has anybody gotten this error while extrating with CD/DVD Generator?
and if so, is there something I can do to prevent this from occuring...
Also, on another note, I recently DL Prince of Persia and Soul Caliber III as torrents... I have a bunch of ".rar" files in the folder, but i'm not sure how to make a single ISO from these individual pieces... Can I get some help on how to rebuild torrent video game files...?? Thanks.

what's up....shs i just downloaded a zipped file from emule a ripped ps2 game ,then i opened and there were two files one was CUE and the other was BIN(3GB) soh i used the DVD Decrypter to burn on my dvd burner and it only reconizes the bin file and when a put it to burn it says that there is something wrong with the file image do you wish to continue i would like to know if this da correct way ? see ya

just so you know this ahead of time, you will have trial and error with burning games. There is really no way around this, well other than getting a good mod chip.
you are bound to have games that do not work due to them having
dummy files, needing to be rebuilt, being a DVD9
you can get the media & burning speed down to a science so that
85-90% of them will work right off, but you will never get 100%
unless you research every game here before you try burning it to
see if anyone else had problems with it or had to rebuild it.
frost75, Bin & Cue files are normally CD based games. What game
was it? You usually just burn the Cue file on those with a CD
burning program, not DVD Decrypter which of course is only for DVD's

In the last few days, many people have made this incorrect statement. DVD Decrypter will burn cd images, it just cant read cds.

Sorry im a bit confused. So do i need to have my playstation chipped or have PS2 flip top / Swap Magic to be able to play back-ups?
Or is it possible to use DVD Decrypter and then have my back-ups that are created this way, work on any PS2 without having to use any boot disks etc.

yes you need to have it chipped ....or better still get swap magic 3.6 will work with pretty much all games and you don`t have to open up your station

you can get swap magic from ebay .and all you do is boot the swap magic disk first ,then just swap the disks and play your copy.you need a tool depending on which playstation you have .the easiest one to use is the slimline as it`s already got a flip top and you just have to put some little "tools" in to bypass the sensors(no opening of the station required unless tyou have the ceramic/white slimline) .if you have the bulky you get a "slide tool" to open up the draw without the station knowing . it`s dead easy to use ,cheap and like i say you don`t have to mess about with your station .

hi im a newbie i just recently got my ps2 chipped and burned a couple of games, i used Nero express and tdk 4.7 gb with 16x speed disks, they didnt work except for 1 game its shit but i wanted to burn it any way........ also i would like to know how do i tell wat version my ps2 is ......
any advise would be great
