Ok so i have got the patch cable that came with my 360 but does this cable have to then go through a router to connect to the internet as i want to play on xbox live. Ideally i would just like to connect my xbox 360 to my modem and connect to live that way. If that is possible do i need a crossover cable and then that is it?. Anyones help would be much appreciated as ideally i wouldnt want to buy a router and just go direct to my modem.

what r u talking bout? patch cable?

all you would need is an ethernet cable, i think thats what u mean by patch cable but im not sure

and no u dont need a router if your modem has an ethernet jack, which it should i dont think they make just usb ones

u can just plug the ethernet cable into your modem, although then u would have to unplug your pc, not letting u be online using your pc at same time.

What you need is a normal ethernet cable but if you want to know how to hook it up correctly heres the link,
