However I did not understand one word of it??? HELP! I am over 60 I not only did not grow up with computers, but the only ones we ever heard about were in the hands of the military. I would like to take a DVD somehow put it on my hard drive {I think} and then burn it to a new disk of some kind..Don't sound to hard EXCEPT again I have no clue just where to even start. I have a new Burner [external] says it will burn in every letter and # there is. Just where di I start please???

First off I would suggest reading the guides that are available in the newby sections.

Then visit bbmayo's web site listed in my signature block and read his guides. This will set the tone for building upon others knowledge.

Next download
DVDFab decrypter, DVDShrink, and DVDDecrypter (get here: http://mrbass.org/dvdrip/) , and imgburn at http://www.imgburn.com. These programs are free. These will be the base programs that you will use to begin learning with. Install them and you are ready to begin.

Pick a guide and try a method step by step. Get good media, Taiyo Yuden, Vertabim, Maxell. Not Memorex.

Give it a go and post your results.

@fristknig

Welcome to the forum. About 6 months ago, I was in the same situation as you (even being over 60) and you came to the right place. I have burned about 200 dvd's since I started. I have had only 2 coasters since I learned what I was "supposed to do", and I caused both coasters.

As 9mmruger stated, there are several good guides available. When I started, I used the ones from bbmayo and ScubaPete. bbmayo has recently turned all of his into pdf's and they are really nice. I printed out most of them and put them in a binder so I use them as reference as needed. One thing the experts here will stress over and over is "use good media, and memorex is not good media".

I prefer using CloneDVD & AnyDVD (I bought both programs), but there are a number of others that work just as well and are free. One of the tabs on the homepage lists the various programs and where to find them. Good Luck.
