No matter what i use tdk, ritek, or verbatim ny burner burns it too fast. Clone dvd, nero, and whatnot ZI set st 2.4-4 and they burn at a minumum of 6x. Why is this? Is the write strageties of my litey burner? Should i use hacked firmwae to slow the drive down like on code guys site?

Those verbs should also be good at the rating of the blank. 16x=16x etc.

Well everyone here including creaky says to burn as slowest as possible and thats what Im trying to do, but I guess the burner wont allow underburning. Guess I will hack the firmware then to improve write strategies...:>

But Im not having a problem per say, just trying to get max quality and it does seem to make sense the slower burn equals better burn. Guess I will head over to code guys and grab the latest firmware:>

i've never said to "burn as slow as possible" to you :) while i wouldn't recommend going @16x even on a 16x rated TY disc, i would PERSONALLY keep it @8x; but, i am not one in the extremist camp to suggest burning EVERYTHING @4x, which you seem to WANT to do~ if your system is UP TO IT (have a good quality burner as well), and you are using GOOD QUALITY media, there really is NO reason WHY you should restrict yourself to ONLY burning @4x on 8x/16x media (by GOOD QUALITY, i speak ONLY from my experience with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim, i can't say for anything else) :)

i know many here suggest burning @4x and never faster to "be on the safe side and less possible chance of errors", i TOTALLY AGREE, but, from MY own experiences w/ TAIYO YUDEN or VERBATIM, i have long forgotten 4x burn speeds on all my 8x/16x rated media by those 2 companies, i keep MINE at a steady 8x on both those discs, regardless of format~ :)

do what you feel is most comfortable for you, experiment a little and see WHICH speed is best for YOU and your standalone players :)

Yeah kivory...i went over to code guys on rpc1.org and they have a hacked firmware over there to speed up the reading part and slow down the burns...so im gonna give it a whirl. I seem to get good burns, but even with verbatim I sometimes get geen blotches with my stand alone, but on my ps2 I dont. So thats why I want to slow it down. :>

I burned a couple of backups this weekend at 6x using imgburn and they came out great. Of course I was using TY media. I will be trying this on a number of different media types in the near future. I should also think about doing the scans and see how they stack up.

To each his own...but here are a few threads for your perusal.

And a good review, but I assume a bit biased.

@creaky

Its a wonder what a little searching will yeild isnt it. I know I read a thread about the verb 16x's being good at any speed (actually better at high speeds), but I couldn't find it but that's where I got the last link in my reply.

ozzy214:

While the thread veered off into a discussion about "fast speed versus slow speed," I noticed that no one really addressed your initial question, which seemed to be asking how to best control the burning speed.

You mentioned a firmware flash, as a possible solution. I would advise against this. Many of the software programs used for burning have a setting somewhere in their "options" or their "settings" which allows you to specify the speed which will be used for burning. Nero has this. DVDDecrypter has this. If you use DVDShrink in conjunction with Nero, you are offered this option as soon as you click on the "Backup!" button (click on the tab to the far right of the window that pops up).

Hope this helps you select whatever speed you finally decide to go with...

Thats the orignal problem at hand. No matter what I set it at whether CloneDVD or Nero it burns faster than I set it. I set clone dvd at 2.4-4 x and it finished the verbatim disc in ten mins....now tell me that s a little fast for a 4 gb dvd burning at 2.4-4x..lol!

I just hacked the firmware in the litey drive so maybe it will burn slower now...cause all im getting is 95 percent with my verbatim disc unlike the link that was given...100 percent quality. So thats why I want to limit the speed...thanks for the links though and the help.:>

@ozzy214 - what Litey is it ?, i won't be overly surprised if you say 1693S as that model's firmware is lacking, it has some burn speeds missing in the firmware.....

..let us know, i can then give you some pointers..

edit- just googled, you have a 1693S!. can't remember if i pointed you the way of omnipatcher in a previous thread

Nah ya didnt, but I went over to code guys and grabbed their already patched firmware. It at least speeded up my read times on ripping, but we will have to see on the burning.

Its just weird like with vso divxtodvd i set it for 4x and it turns around and burns at 6x..lol! Hopefully the patched firmware will do the trick. I may also use their eeprom tool to flush it cause I use decrypter to booktype the + permanetly to rom and now liteys tool wont recognize the drive. So I may also reset the prom and see if that helps, but I think ya right. Its just lacking firmware and codeguys is pretty good at fixing that:>

Btw here is the page for any other litey users that may want to hack the burner and void the warranty...
