Hello.
I'm from Europe (Finland) and I'm going to buy a PSP very soon, possibly tomorrow.
From one store, a guy told that the PSP they sell have this close to the barcode:
PSP-1004 K
220-240 V
WS259 C
I've read the C should be 1.52, but I'm just getting confirmation from here. A friend of mine has the exact same package, and he has 1.52, which he upgraded to 2.00 and then down to 1.50, of course.
I also need a Memory Stick, an USB transfer cable and some other stuff, so the Giga Pack would be the best for me, but I'm not too sure about it... People say the following means the Giga Pack has 2.00:
PSP-1003 G1
220-240 V
SW259 F
Notice the F. It also comes with G and H, but they are 2.01 and 2.50 respectively.
BUT, I'v heard that some people got the Giga Pack F, and they had 2.01 in it! If course this could be a terrible lie, since very most people have 2.00 on their F versions ( read more from http://www.pspshock.com/index.php/2005/11/28/177-bien-choisir-son... ).
Should I spend more money, and get the Value Pack with C on it, or just buy a Giga Pack with an F on it?
Thanks!
PS. If there's anything else I should know, please do let me.

Appears it's not the only site saying that about the F:
Li que:
X = A -> Firmware 1.0
X = B -> Firmware 1.50
X = C -> Firmware 1.51
X = D -> Firmware 1.52
X = E -> Firmware 2.0
X = F -> Firmware 2.01
X = G -> Firmware 2.5
Contudo, tive hoje o cuidado de comprar uma "E" e obtive o firmware 1.52. (ufa!)
And yet, further down that same thread, tho that guy above did just make conclusions i think..
Ois, ora aí vai o meu contributo:
+ GigaPack firmware 2.00, letra F, adquirido a 27/11/2005 na fnac Cascais
+ ValuePack firmware 1.52, letra E, adquirido a 4/12/2005 na fnac Chiado Lx
Sounds like the giga pack F is 2.0, but wouldn't bet money on it.
Just curious, but what price difference are you paying for the giga and the nvalue pack, and what's the cheapest you've found a 2Gb mem stick for? I know of places selling them for $100US, so just wondering whether it would be better for you to get the cheaper value pack, which you def know is 1.52, or hedge your bets no possibly picking up a 2.01 (which would really suck at the moment)

You're right!
I'll get the one I know for sure to be less than 2.00. No idea to take the risk for just a few euro worth of saving.
Now, when comparing the Value Pack and the Giga Pack:
The Giga Pack has a 1024 MB Memory Stick instead of the 32 MB found in the Value Pack (this is the biggest plus of course), and then it has the USB wire (which I think is the standard USB-A to USB-B) and a platform for the PSP (which people say is not very good).
Cheapest 1 GB card I've seen is about 66? but none of the stores I know are selling it anymore. :(
Will any Memory Stick PRO Duo work with PSP? Should I order it abroad?
I mean the 32 MB card will be more than enough for the starters, to get it to 1.50 and to play some SNES and Game Boy games, while waiting for the Memory Stick to arrive.
Thanks.

Yep that usb cable is infact just your normal a to b type, picked mine up for $10AUD (usb 2.0, tho my pc isn't lol)
I bought my 2x2gb from an online ebay store here in oz $400AUD ($228 US) for both, that's a saving of nearly $150AUD off each stick at the time, but they actually sent the mem stick out from japan, official sony stickers for psp etc
Only toook a week too.
But yep, all sony duo pro's are the same, and i use a european psp like yours will be.

Also, this is wrong:
Quote: X = A -> Firmware 1.0
X = B -> Firmware 1.50
X = C -> Firmware 1.51
X = D -> Firmware 1.52
X = E -> Firmware 2.0
X = F -> Firmware 2.01
X = G -> Firmware 2.5
It should be like this:
No character or 'A' is 1.50
'B' would be 1.51
'C' is 1.52 (confirmed)
'D', 'E' & 'F' might all be 2.00
'G' is 2.01
'H' is 2.50
That should be right.
