I have both Nero 6 and 7 (licensed) and I have been playing a bit with the latest build of ffdshow. Specifically, I like the "logo away" feature which does an excellent job of masking out time track markings from dvd screener files. Now, with that being said... :)

Playing a AVI file in media player with ffdshow set to logo-away, the images in media player are "wonderful". Time marks cleaned up very well. However taking that same AVI file and putting it into Nero 6, it appears that Nero insists on using its own codec versions and won't take advantage of the features from ffdshow.

Is there a way to make Nero use this, or is there another method that I can use to accomplish the same thing without quality loss?

Thanks kindly in advance

I'm having a hard time trying to understand you here. However, if you want to convert and trancode your AVI to DVD format/files, then under More, Video Options, then "DVD-Video" and on "quality settings": set to High Quality, on Encoding Mode: set to High Quality 2 PASS VBR.

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Not quite what I was getting at.. Let me try to explain a bit more.

I use NeroVision to take various input files, convert to a dvd format and burn. Nero generally works well, despite several minor issues.

I've installed the "ffdshow" programs, and one of the options in the video codec processing is called "logo away", where you can define a pixel area to mask. DVD Screener timestamps are a classic example. The FFDShow program, which acts as the codec handler, will take that area defined and "blend it" with the surrounding area of the video so that the output shown (for example in windows media player) is a much cleaner image than the input file loaded. While the area masked out may be a bit blurry, it is a definate improvement.

Now that FFDShow is "installed", I would suspect that I should be able to have Nero take advantage of that processing. However it does not seem like it can. Nero appears to want to use it's own codecs rather than others that may be available. Can Nero be made to use or take advantage of the "pre-processing" features that FFDShow is capable of handling?

Would there be a "better choice" in the way of video authoring software, that could be used instead of Nero so that things like this could be done?

Thanks again :)

You can try to unregister Nero native filters.
Can be done eiter manually (track down filter file, type "regsvr32 /u "path_to_file.ax" or google for something called "vscwap".

I dunno if Nero won't scream errors if it's own filters are unregistered though.

Edit: And of course FFDshow VFW must be enabled for given fourcc to work.

This is to alkohol

I use Pinnacle to prepare my video and output it as an AVI, then I use Nero to right it out to a DVD, but my DVD skips or freezes when playing on a DVD player. What setting sould I have on Nero or on Pinnacle, if you are familiar with it, to prevent this from happening? I think it has something to do with the compression, but I am unsure. I also strated writing the DVDs to a DVD+R but have now changed to DVD-R. Which one is preferred or best to guarantee proper playback on DVD players? Can you provide any help? PS- Cool picture! Mario
