I already seem to be having problems backing up my DVD's, i'm only getting about a 50% success rate, all my backups that do fail seem to fail during the disc closing mode, but That is not my question......just maybe some insit that might help....
My backups skip crazy to the point of unwatchable sometimes when viewed....i dont know why i upgraded from some cheap PLAYO brand DVD+R to PHILLIPS DVD+R and the problem still seems to occur....Recentley my backup origanal disk have no scratches they are brand new....any ideas?
Thank You

Let's have the "very last section" of your Nero log, so I (and other members) can tell you what needs to be done. Go here and get your Nero log: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\NeroHistory (for Nero 6) and C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHisotry (for Nero 7) -- now "REMEMBER" to edit out your Nero serial key in prior to posting.

Your burner's firmware is old, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2052 and get the latest VPSG for an update. It will help to increase media compatibilitiy.

Your best bet would be, upgrade/add another 512MB Ram to boost up your CPU -- this way, it'll be more safe when burning. Or you can try to free up more memory on any unuse programs/applications.

This don't quite look right. Are you trying to burn onto a DVD+R DL (DVD9) media?

Again, burner's firmware needs to update. This should have 2 lines -- look below for reference, from a log of mine.

You're pretty lucky to have a succesfully burned with the above messages. However, I've never seen anything like that on any of my Nero logs. I'm guessing a few of them DVD files are fragmented? What kind of blank media you're using to burn? Can you post up the very bottom "Existing drivers"? It should look something like mine.
Here is a successfully burned log of mine, you can compare mine to yours and see if you'll notice any differences.

Thanks for your help, i am about to head off to work, but i will try these after work!! My other question is the only firmware i can find is for Hp DVD Writer 530r and mine is Hp DVD Writer 530i, any suggestions.
How do i add more memory to my computer, when im not doing anything i can tell i have alot of applications running but i dont know what to close because i dont know what programs are crucial.
--Maybe someone could tell me how to save a screen shot and i will post my running applications so i could be told what the minumum i need running is.
THANK YOU!!

You say its a 530i, but Nero is calling it a 530r.
Quote: Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 530r> Version: VPS8 - HA 1 TA 0 - 7.0.1.2

It is recommended to have to less than 512MB of ram for backing up movies. To free up some resources, simply shut down anything that you do not need running (Nortons, McAfee, spyware, adware, media card monitors, CPU monitors) you won't be connected to the internet so you won't need these, because your not supposed to be multitasking...right?

well regardless of what Nero is calling it i can see right on the burner it is 530i and im not arguing w/ you so sorry if it sounds like that, but, then maybe that might be the problem?
If it is 530i and i flash it w/ 530r firmware that would be bad though right?

This is what Nero said: "Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 530r> Version: VPS8", so your dvd burner is HP DVD Writer 530r, with a firmware version VPS8.
Re-read my reply, here's what I said; "Your burner's firmware is old, go here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2052 and get the latest "VPSG" for an update. It will help to increase media compatibilitiy."

If it's a PC, then you can open up and just add/insert your new 512MB or 256MB into the next slot next to your old memory. Here is a Memory should look like and or similar http://www.nanosys1.com/mem-dd-pc32-51k.html -- to free up more memory, go to START, RUN and type mscofig, click on STARTUP and disable any Startup programs that you don't really needed. Another way is "ctrl+alt+del", click on Processes, and "end process" on any unnecessary running programs/applications (be very careful though).

Well i just did it. I succesfully updated my firmware, even though im not sure what that is!
==I am only on Lunch right now and have to go back to work :o(
But i will give another try so far these are the steps i have taken:
Uninstalled Nero 7 and Re-Installed Nero 6.0.0.18
Updated Firmware
Freed Up as Much Space As Possible
After I try to backup another disk i Will Let You Know How I Went Later Today.
Do You Think The Firmware Will Make A Big Difference, Maybe If You Dont Mind You Could Help Explain To Me What Exactley It Is.
ONCE AGAIN, THAKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!

Firmware is only a driver that helps your optical drive stay current with newer media types.

Memory is too low, see my earlier reply for upgrading or free up memory. You're writing to close to the edge, try to customize to 4360MB or 4400MB with high quality media like genuine YUDEN, Verbs "Advanced Azo", and Maxell (Hitachi - made in japan). Try to burn at 4X -- it's the best and safest.
What kind of blank media did you use?
