I decided against getting a 27" lcd television but I ran across this one for under 700 bucks!

Longevity is a big issue with me but I did some research and they seem to get their panels from CMO which I think is a pretty good company right?

I think it has all the tools I need for future HD programming as well....But what I am afraid of is that I buy it now and in the summer they drop even further than before leaving me w/ an outdated television (although w/ technology you can never win) with the possibility of it not even lasting that long.....But the price is very tempting especially at the size and the average 32" running about $1200

It would serve the purpose of television/movies and gaming and wouldnt ever be used a monitor...

Opinions and comments?

With LCD tvs its not all about the panels. Several companies outsource for matirials. What you want to look for are the things that make the display diffent. Your not going to find alot of proprietary or licensed technology under the hood of a budget product. I have said this time and time again, "You get what you pay for!" The best products have industry leading proccessing capabilites that enhance the proformance of the generic LCD panels. A product that is tested and tweek to perfection will have less bugs and better proformance than one that isn't.

Sharp, Samsung, and LG produce some of the best LCD panels out there. Yet Sony has one of, if not the best, names in LCD technology. Why, because Sony is very liberal with thier technology. Sony hadware uses Samsung LCD panels coupled with Sony's proprietary "VEGA" (spelled WEGA) light engine and licensed video proccessing technology(ies). Their line is "Bravia" and it comes in two flavors. Sony Bravia and Sony XBR.

Thats where I stand,
Ced

Straight shooting the facts as always...I had checked out the Syntax brand at the stores to check out the models...Quite frankly, I was rather surprised by their quality. Not as good as the Samsung beside it or the Sony above it but it definately looked better than the Zenith and polaroid...Overall looked decent, thanks for your input....

*Edit*

I went ahead and am taking the chance on it...It seems to be capable of everything that HD-technology will offer in the next couple of years. Id prefer bigger but my my dorm isnt very big so this will do fine.
