ARRRRRGH. Ok, I just bought a 50pack Maxell DVD-R 8x. Everytime i try to burn my .avi movies it pops up a error "No seek complete, Could not perform end of disc-at-once" or a "Track something error" cant remember that one. I mean, i was able to burn fine with Fujifilm DVD-R at 8x, but not Maxell at any x.

Heres my log.

I'm not sure if your firmware is up to date, but it looks like it can read the blank media and its MID. I can't find your burner over here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php at all, so maybe try to search on the net for any latest available firmware.

This is crazy, it's way too close to the edge. You need to customize to 4360MB or 4400MB at the max.

Lately, I've seen a lot of failed burned from Ritek (which is Maxell DVD-R "made in Taiwan"). The only Maxell I recommend is their DVD+R (Hitachi - made in Japan), which is Maxell002. I've burned over a few hundreds of Maxell 8X DVD+R (made in japan) and they're all flawless. Other high quality are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim "Advanced Azo".

Looks like your burner doesn't really like those Ritek. Again, look at above reply for high quality media.

Try to burn at 4X -- this is the best, saftest and most recommendation speeds.

I use those Ritek disks (printable version), but only at 4x because of odd failures at higher speeds.

So should i only buy DVD-R only from Japan?
and by customizing burn max at 4360 is just not to burn that many files on the disc right?

Burn your Riteks at 4x and see if that works for you.
In this forum the consensus is that 4x is maximum for DVD to avoid errors.
The common wisdom is to buy DVD's manufactured in Japan (with perhaps an exception made for Verbatim).
I use TY, Verbatim and Ritek all at 4x, even if rated higher.

You're welcome, glad we could help.

Keep in mind that when it comes to dvd burning, firmware and media is the most important aspect, firmware needs to be the latest to read the media and media needs to be high quality. If you're going after Verbatim "Advanced Azo", then it's ok if it's Made In Taiwan, but if you're after Taiyo Yuden and Maxell, then make sure it's Made In Japan.

Happy burning!!!!

thats very strange about your DVDR problem becasue fuji are the ones that gave me more problems, they are absolute junk, you can see lines all over all the DVD R's in the light and i had to burn at least 6 coasters untill i got a perfect burn, most of the time i got loads of blotches where the DVD R did not burn properly. dont buy these peices of junk! i am changing back to maxwell asap. never had this problem with maxwell.
