Any suggestions on how to quieten my noisy PC? I have had 2 extra fans installed but at night I can still hear it from every room in my house. PC is Celeron 2.4 Asus X series M/B 512Mb Ram & XP Home sp2

What exactly is making the noise.
Is it your graphics card fan, case fans, PSU fans or CPU fans.
If you installed extra fans, then you would have added to the noise level, do you also have a heat problem.
You should be able to track down where the noise is coming from, and just replace that part.
I can always suggest quite devices if I know what it is you need to change.

Adding extra fans doesnt really help to make a computer quieter. if you want to shut your PC up take out or turn off all the fans except the CPU fan and your graphics fan (if it has 1).
If your PC is still loud then you may want to invest in a quieter processor fan and graphics card silencer. you can also get noise reduction foam pads to go on the inside of your case

Many PCs use 60mm CPU fan. Typically these really spin fast, to move some air ie. 4800-7200RPM.
I replace them with 80mm Vantec Stealth fan (2000RPM = 21dBA) and a small 60mm > 80mm adapter like one of these:

BIG improvement (huge).
Small fans should be replaced with bigger/slower wherever possible...
Sometimes new CPU cooler incl. ~80mm or larger fan is affordable, and not much more $$ than doing the fan-mod.
CPU cooler must be removed to perform any fan-mod (so, you will need Arctic Silver).
Celeron 2.4 doesn't get too hot. Consider replacing casefans with quiet Stealth models or equivalent - they will be much quieter and move almost as much air.

Many thanks for your sugustions guys. I was told by the shop I purchased my PC from that it was a heat problem & that is why he added the extra fans& he even said he runs his oun PC with the sides of to assist in cooling.My PC has the intergrated sound & grapics.
I will try the Stealth fans & see if it helps.

a water cooling system requires no fans.You might have a bearing going out on you fan.
Is it crap or is it memorex?

I would suggest that if the guy you deal with is running his own PC with the sides off, then you give him a wide berth in future.
Any good set up would be better off with the side panels on, as it will help direct the air flow correctly.
It will also eliminate excess dust getting into the PC.
If a car salesman told me to open the windows on the car because the air con was not up to the job, I know what I would be telling him to do with his suggestion and ask him to fix the air con.
You need to ask why it has a heat problem in the first place, especially if you have not altered the components and added extra heat from what was supplied.
I think telling you to take the side panels off, or at least saying that is what is does, is just his way of getting you to go away.
Personally I use water cooling and it is quiet, but I certainly would no suggest it on your setup, as a good water cooler will be worth more than the motherboard and CPU you are cooling.

The PC shop is no longer in business so you could be right. I am a bit of a noob with PC'S and up to the time I joined After dawn I was not game to even take the sides off my PC thanks to guys like you I can now do different things myself. I am going to try better fans to see if it helps.

The good thing is, at least you've started to have a play and are now learning about whats going on inside the PC.
Once you start though, there's no going back, as it becomes quite addictive and sadly quite expensive all too often.
I can't think of a better site than this for covering such a wide range of PC/Gaming issues. It's helped me out loads of times when I've got stuck, as you find that over time most people have been through the same learning curve and experienced exactly the same problems.
