First off hey all, new on here so treat me gently.

Having some probs backing up PS2 Iso's. With a previous setup, I had no troubles burning off in Alcohol with Samsung DVDRW drive an Ridisc's.

I've now tried the same methods with a new setup which has a Sony dvd rw dw-q28a and Ps2 games get stuck very quickly at title screens etc.

I though it may be a shoddy batch of discs so have also tried Verbatims and other progs such as Nero and Dvd dycrypter to still no joy.

Is there any know problems with this particular drive or can anyone suggest why I can no longer burn out successfully??

Cheers.

Hi, welcome to the forum..

Firstly, which games are you having problems with... it could be that those games are just tricky to copy.

secondly, what boot method do you use?

The media should be ok that you're using. Something you could try to test your theory about the drive itself.. burn an older game that you already made a backup of with the old drive on the new drive.. if it works then most probably the problem lies with the particular games you're trying to backup. If it doesn't work then maybe it's the media isn't as compatible with this drive.. so switch to taiyo yudens or ritek, I think they'd be most compatible with most drives.

let me know how you get on

Cheers Paddy.

Seems to be most games im getting hold of at the min, particually NFS-MW & Call of Duty. I'm booting with a duo chip i think, not swapping or anything.

Will have a crack at what you said, see how that fairs.

Hmmm... what prog did you use and what speed?

Is it call of duty 2? if so:-

Try using DVD Decrypter to read the disc to iso(if you didn't do this already)

and then use Nero to burn the image (using Nero image burning program) at 4x on an 8x disc (pref the verb discs you have)

That worked for me.

I'll get back to you later, have to go and do some stuff at the minute..will check back on here later

good luck

I know on Call Of Duty 2 for me it was something weird.
It would load up the the intro screen where there is a 2 spinning, or in my case not spinning, in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Then it would just freeze there. I have a DMS4 Pro chip and it was something in the settings of the chip that was causing it. I wish i could remember which setting it was. But a friend found it and was able to boot the game that froze before he changed the setting. So if you can get into your chips settings try a few things.
Like no force modes, no auto patching, no "Y" position fix, and stuff like that. If you have settings that is. Try them one at a time if you have the same problem i did, it may work.
I just decided to get it for Xbox instead so i never bothered
to get the PS2 copy working.

also, have you searched the net to see if there is any update for your burners firmware. That will help a lot with media compatibility.
Some burners like some brand of DVD and not others.
My Sony DRU-700A does great with Philips DVD-R 8X speed
Burn them all with DVD Decrypter at 4X and both PS2 and Xbox games
have worked just fine, and trust me i have done plenty of them.
Also PS2 are know for hating DVD-RW media, so if that is what you use
i would try some DVD-R 8X DVD's instead

It's weird how it'll work with sm3.6 without a hitch, but have to change settings on your modchips... is this the first game that's done that steimy?

@steveo42 - do what steimy suggested, he knows his stuff. Also, have you got your DMA enabled? you can check by going into device manager and looking at your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.. should say primary and secondary IDE channels.. right click one of them and then select properties.. then click the advanced settings tab.

should say something like

Do that with both IDE channels to make sure they are DMA enabled

Cheers again folks
@ steimy not over sure whether I can alter that sorta stuff with my chip, think i may be able to but have no idea what chip it is any more or how to access the menu? Been chipped for so long ang have never really had any reason to play bout with any of that knida thing.

Firmware wise i'm a bit causious as i've read a few warning here and there that you can fuck you writer up irreparably? And that you have to flash it or something? Bit confused with that?

@ Paddy. Check all the controllers and there all set to DMA. What difference does that make out of interest?

@paddymail
yes, that is the only game that did that. Not sure why.
my friend said he stuck it in one time and it worked just fine, then others would do weird things like give him the RSOD?
That's why i gave up on the PS2 version. Too much hassle and my Xbox version played flawless right off the HDD

As far as firmware, they always warn you about it.
It is a flash, if it doesn't work or screws up in any way you should just be able to got to the site of the company that makes the burner
and get the original firmware and reflash it.
A flash just means that it will replace the current BOS or settings that the burner uses.
I have done mine and had no problems

If you have DMA set then that's good.. basically if you had PIO instead it would slow down the transfer between the hard disc and recorder and would take a lot longer to burn a disc, also I think there's a greater chance of errors on the disc.
I'd recommend doing what Steimy suggested and updating the firmware for the drive..see if that makes a difference. An easy way to do that is through DVD Decrypter.

Hey Folks.

Just a bit of an update on this one.

Updated my firm ware to the LiteOn SOHW-1693S as apparantly that is the same as my Sony dvd rw dw-q28a.

Doesn't seem to have done much and is still copying pretty shit. When i open the patch in omni patcher I can't even see any support for verbatim disc as that is what i'm using.

I still don't seem to be able to write slower than 6x either? Could editing the firmware in omnipatcher sort this? Even if I cannot see any verbatim compatibility?
