XVCD to MPG or MPEG2

I borrowed a movie from a friend but it is an XVCD format on 3 discs. How can I convert these files back to mpg or mpeg2 so that I can create a DVD movie out of it. Once they are mpg or mpeg2 I don't need help, just getting there.
