As you can see, burner and blank media are the same for both attempts. So, how do I get Nero 7 to behave like Nero 6?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If you want to stick with Nero 6, your version is slightly behind. Nero 6x latest is 6.6.0.18. May not help much, but they did a revision for a reason, maybe a bug fix?
Also your firmware is one version behind.
Quote: Recorder: <LITE-ON DVDRW SOHW-1693S>Version: KS0A
Here is the KSOB revision:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2056 I don't have enough time to look thru the rest of the log, just posted what i could see from a quick glance. Maybe the firmware update will let Nero 7 do a good burn??
Gotta run. Try the firmware and nero updates.
**edit**
i almost forgot:
Quote: Disc Manufacturer ID: INFODISC, Media Type ID: A01
Try using better media. The CMCs i saw on the first log are NOT good media either. Try some verbatim, Sony MIJ, Fuji MIJ, or Maxells. Stay away from Memorex or any off brand. Media being used can make a big difference, good media, good burns, bad media, no burns, or bad burns.. Sounds kind of simple, but it seems to hold true.

Thanks for your help. I updated firmware and tried again, without success.
I get your point about substandard blanks, but I'm puzzled that the blanks work fine with Nero 6 (and Pinnacle Studio), but not with Nero 7.

I don't think they have all the bugs worked out of Nero7. I am sticking with Nero6 and am happy with it. I have seen where ppl can burn fine with vers6, but have problems, or can't burn at all when using vers 7. That tells me the problem is in the vers 7 package.
This is why i was saying the media you are using may be causing most of your problems:
Quote: Insert empty disc to write to.
(Medium in drive: Unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL.)
right before that, the program identified your discs manufacturer, so it knew a disc was in there. Out of date firmware can cause the same problem, but you updated your firmware. Did you update the Nero vers 6?, or are you going to stick with Nero7 ? Try some better media. You don't have to buy a bunch, just a small sample will show you if media is your main issue. I didn't see any other issues in the log you posted.

Thanks again for your kind help. I think I'll follow your wise example and revert back to Nero 6, which has worked fine for me.

I just picked up some Maxells at Staples. I've give it another try, then, if still unsuccessful, I'll go back to Nero 6 'til the bugs in Nero 7 are squashed.

Those Maxells should give you much better results than the media you have been using. Media is something most ppl overlook, and try to get the cheapest ones. You can get good quality media at a low price, but you have to find them on sale. It is worth it. I never use cheap media anymore. I once got burned by some CMC mag crap hiding under the Verbatim data life plus brand, of all things. This was a few years ago. Now, i look for Taiyo Yuden when i can find it, and use Verbatim as a second choice. CMCs and other crap media have bad dye (or they are doing something wrong in the manufacturing), and this degrades over time, sometimes just one viewing is all you will get out of a "successfull" burn on these discs. Other times the thing will burn fine, and be fine for a month or two, before starting to get pixililation, freezing, unrecognized disc, and all the other errors crappy media produces. Trying to save data backed up on a CMC disc can be a nightmare. The best thing to do, is to avoid cheap media if you want to reduce your headaches.

Thanks, MaxBurn and Phantom. I decided to uninstall Nero 7 and revert to Nero 6.6.0.18. Tried burning a Maxell (ritek G-05) at 4X and all went fine!
I'll try Nero 7 again later...
