I would like to get either a Digital converter box (Cox) or a HDTV box that is like the cable converter box they rent.
My plan is to record movies from Cox Cable on my HD on my PC instead of recording them on VHS.

Questions:
1. If I get the Cox HDTV converter box, will it make better DVD than a std Digital cable connvertor box?? I know the TV on HDTV is better but will it translate into a better DVD?

2. Will I not need a VIDEO card for my PC to receive and play the digital signal? Do I hook the cable box to the Video card via coax or RCA connectors?

3. I noticed Plextor has some kind of box they sell that converts I think to digital but never could grasp what it is for.

Anyone out there understands this stuff well??

thanks

Yes, but only the HD stations will receive a boost in quality. Standard def images look the best when they are derived from better sources. That is why the HD digital channels should make for better sources than standard analog or standard digital channels.

There are other considerations like how good your equipment is, how good your cable connections are, and what type of connection are used. Digital connections are better than analog connections. Component Video is better than S-Video, and S-Vdieo is better than Composite video (all are analog connections).

Thanks for responding.

Not sure what kind of signal that will come out of the Cox HDTV Cable box since it is a box rented from Cox to convert TVs with HDTV to HD.

I assume that will hook into my "TV card" I need to purchase for my PC, (which is a Asus, 3.0ghz, 1GB memory, with a Asus EN6200 TC 256mb Video card).

If I hookup the Cox HDTV cable box to my PC, I assume it will hook into my unpurchased "TV" card. Any recommendation on the TV card? Any special specs it needs? Do they sell a HDTV card?

Any recommendations??

Of course I am assuming I have to use a HDTV cable box to my PC to get HDTV into my hard disk and then into my Plextor 716 DL burner.
