Everytime I try to burn data cd or audio cd with nero my computer screen goes black and my computer restarts. I have this problem on both my computers. I've used different media and tried both quick copy and also copy to HD with same results.

How much RAM do you have?
Burning is very CPU intensive and generate lots of heat. You could have a shortage of ram, overheating, or a combination of both.

PC could be getting too hot inside while burning.
Have you tried any other software for burning ? I don't think it's
a software issue.
I had the same problem awhile back. Had to reload my OS & installed a better CPU fan.
Works fine now , no problems.

Both cpu and mb running at around 29c with "cool and quiet" AMD probe. I have 3 chassi fans plus my psu fan and my cpu fan. This box runs cool. Custom made.
I've tried everything. I've changed write speeds and read speeds, different media, removed and reinstalled Nero, and its the same results on my pc and on my daughters pc.

I ran the Info tool for Nero and my pc rebooted on its own like you thought it would so I downloaded the Aspi you suggested but now I can't figure out how to install it. It has a "Read me" which tell you to run "install.bat" but how do you do that?

you click on it and a DOS window will pop up and run -- a bat file is a script file !
If you already have an ASPI installed and its corrupt -- first step is to remove that .. you should see a file called KillAspi.. that is what is run first.. then the Install.bat
Good Luck

I'm sorry, I'm a newbie. I opened the file "MS-DOS batch file" but all its saids is "press any key to continue" it doesn't allow you to type anything.
I guess I need step by step instructions on how to ibstall this new aspi and how to run that "killaspi" you mentioned.

Cause I dont know what you downloaded ... maybe you should go to this place :- http://radified.com/ASPI/forceaspi.htm
you will see that you can download forceASPI17.ZIP -- once you have that -- follow the instructions that are given on that page.
Quote: I recommend using ForceASPI this way:
1. Run dumpASPI to backup your current ASPI layer
2. Run instASPI to install the new ASPI layer
3. Reboot
4. Run aspichk to see if everything worked OK
Some people report better success by running killASPI before running instASPI when newer ASPI drivers (such as v4.71.2) have been installed.
It cant be better explained then that.
When you click for example DumpASPI -- you will see a DOS window pop open and it will run the script and confirm it has dumped the ASPI .. all you do is X out that window.
Next you do the same with the instASPI -- click it -- it will pop a new DOS window and confirm it has installed the ASPI.. you X out that window.
Sorry but I cant be clearer then that
Smiles..

No luck!
Installed ForceASPI but no change. I installed the aspi 4.71.2 that MAXBURN suggested and I can now run my info tools on Nero without it rebooting but it still reboots when trying to burn cd's. New error message "IRQL not equal or less...??? also shows when my screen goes blank but it happens soo fast I can't read all of it. I can burn dvds fine with shrink>nero but not cd's. I have no other problems with any software, cdclone, dvd decypter, or hotburn.

Hi there,
ForceASPI v1.8 can be found here:

Hi Cougar
Thanks for the link to the ForceASPI drivers
Ran the aspichk and no aspi drivers were install. Download and installed the drivers and ran check again and have ver 4.71.2
However, I am still getting the blue screen and reboot when trying to capture or burn video.
after pc reboots, I am getting an nvraidservice error. I have 2 SATA drives with RAID1. Could this be causing the PC to reboot.
Thanks Rick
