Ya I've been hearing the same thing in a couple of threads but whenever I ask the poster for a link or more information no one has anything to say. Hopefully you'll have better luck than me and we can get some solid info on this. So please anyone who knows where to get any info please let us know. Thanks.

dont believe that hype. if they lock us out, that would be kinda dumb.. We don't gotta upgrade if we don't want to, so thats false.

can just see the class action lawsuit loophole in that particular rumour. It would imply that Sony were aware that their machine had a usable security loophole that allowed it to play games from other than the UMD and coded a lockout for a predetermined date. A bit like entrapment in the perceived approach. what would happen to those who weren't keeping track of things online, and those who wrapped them up for christmas presents? be a bit of a shock to get it out only to find it didn't work. Add to that the obvious negative newsworthyness of thousands of PSP's suddenly falling over. sounds like complete bollox to me.
Might start a rumour that if you don't upgrade the 1.50 firmware by january then the PSP will morph its internal architecture into a Nintendo DS and it's UMD drive will turn into a miniature toaster.

i hate to tell you the rumors are true sony is going to dnas on all games by the end of december so if you do not update the psp to the latest firmware you will no longer be able to use illegal copys online even using fastloader so my recommendation is upgrade as soon as possible

there is a weird letter right now going around several p2p programs from
a
guy calling himself booger69g

i have seen it on warez.com's p2p software it is really funny to because this guys a couple of melons short of a pool cue and this letter has been posted censored because p2p sites don't want to get sued which i thought is a crock this guy sounds nuts??

Dear Sony computer entertainment America

Greetings and hello I am known as booger69g and this is all I will refer to my self as in this letter this letter is being sent via a free e-mail account made with a fake name and address you will not be able to trace this sorry for this but even though I am a good hacker not a bad one I really think I would receive death threats if anyone found out who I was I currently don?t support pirates and I really hate people that steal sony software and reverse engineer that software as well so included is some important information

1. you need to realease firmware version 3.00 for sony?s psp handheld and increase security and force online games for that system implement dnas immediately even old games need to implement this feature right away

2. there is a hack that has been proven to work for your latest firmware version 2.60 all though this hack works it will not be realeased for the next 2 months

3. included is this list for illegal software sites that need to be shut down or prosecuted for piracy

http://www.*********.COM/torrents/section_177

(contains 33 psp torrents and links to illegal psp software)

www.*************.org

(supports pirating software for the psp and playstation 2 and tells people where to get the illegal software from)

http://***********.org

(contains links to hundreds of psp and ps2 and ps1 software for illegal downloads)

http://www.**********.com/bittorrent/games/bittorrent_games_psp_1.html

(contains illegal psp links and torrents and ps2 links and ps1 links)

www.********.com

these sites need to be shut down immediately

I hope this letter helps out every one out there

Booger69g over and out

Die all you cheap ******* pirates

For real this booger dude is a complete fag and needs to get a life before he pisses off the wrong person. And I am very doubtful of his claim since he has yet to provide a link to anything official and I have asked on three different threads now so he can go find some offs to fuck

1. There is NO possible way for a lockout. That means $0ny is rippin us off were payin for their hardware and they dont lets us use it/make it usesless and we can sue them but still there is no POSSIBLE way for a lockout if there is no connection and it isnt LEGAL for a lockout anyway theyre just threatening those 2.60 freak lamers $0ny fans.
2. DNAS ONLY APPLYS FOR ONLINE GAMING!!!! AND IT AINT ENFORCED YET!!! AND IT WILL ONLY BE ENFORCED FOR FUTURE GAMES!!! CURRENT GAMES will NOT HAVE DNAS!!! COZ THEY dont HAVE it!!!

I was told to change my sig so I did this.

I don't know now.

maybe we are all reading this whole situation wrong. What if all that was actually meant was that ALL NEW games will require the latest (or at least later than the 1.50) firmware. In some ways we are already being locked out of the latest and FUTURE games. I still don't believe that my machine is going to stop working if I don't update the firmware, add to that the thought that as I am a lazy sod, my machine is actually exhibiting the wrong date anyway, I was in such a rush to set it up and play it that the date is actually 3 months out. if anybody suffers the alledged bricking of their psp for lack of firmware update, then whats to stop those who havent bricked for my situation from just making sure it never gets to the bricking date. I still don't believe it anyway. If I had bought my PSP with one game, and legitimately intended to never play a copy, nor buy any other game, never go on the internet, perhaps not even have access to the internet (there are still people who don't use the net believe it or not) and never have any desire to do anything more than play that one game, then what exactly would happen if the PSP suddenly rolled over and died? who exactly would be responsible? me for not knowing or Sony for being devious enough to have done it? would it throw up a message saying it had fallen over for lack of an update or just stop working? It is bollox, I'd stake my wife on it (at least I think thats the usual term). if you want to prove it to yourself, just set the date of your PSP to July 2008 and see if it suddenly bricks itself. If it doesn't then tell people on here and we can all settle down again.

Yeah i agree with you bro, that's bollocks that the 1.5 will lock out the userjust from a technical point, as someone already mentioned, it would have required them to know when they released it, and that's bullshit. The only way we 1.5 users are going to be locked out is by the 2.0 only reqd games, jesus, some people will believe anything they read/hear.

firmware lockout....

2 words : bull & $hit :p

Its dec 20 as I write this and I am playing some damn tasty isos.

The best sony/devs can hope to do is have games that wont run on earlier fw versions, liek GTA.... but its only a matter of time before thats haxxed.

I love my psp and my ps2, and plan to get a ps3 eventually. But sony just has to face it that their anti-piracy approach is *not* working
