Okay I got a weird one here. I have a asus k7m board with a 800 mhz amd athlon. Old piece of crap I know. Problem is I cant install. I keep getting bsods usually at the formatting stage, but sometimes before I hit that screen. Like when it asks if I want to repair or install.

The bsods are either page fault in nonpaged area or atapi driver error. Anyone have a clue whats up? I thought it was the hard drive at first since it was a 5400 rpm western digital 8 gig in there. So i went over to best buy where they had the ata seagate for 39.99 after a instant rebate. So I grabed that 120 gig drive and same bsods. I updated the bios to the last one. It also has a s3 agp card.

Now does anyone have any ideas? I dont get it. I was able to succesfully put windows 98 on it, but I really want xp. What I dont understand is I had a dell with a 500 mhz pentium and 128 ram that I could successfully install xp on. So this is much faster so I dont get whats going on? Maybe ddp or rugripper can help. Or even syphertek. This is driving me bat shit..:>

take all pci cards out to see if that resolves the problem. a friend ran into same problem as board could take win2k but not xp so xp doesn't like some motherboards or combinations of motherboards & cards. use a pencil eraser on the gold contacts of the ram to remove the tarnish.

I got it ddp thanks. I had two 128 sdrams in it which it suports, but one was pc 133 and another was pc100. The mobo only handles pc100 and guess it cant down the speed of the faster dimm. So as soon as the fast dimm was gone its fine. Unless the pc133 is bad?? Thanks though and ya were right. Linksys router is easy as plug and play. Now I got the backup going I ran network wizard on both my main and backup...rebooted and all was good without touching nothing in the router setup. Thanks ddp and thanks linksys for a great product.
