hi just wondering what format do mp3 need to be converted to so your music will play on any cd player?

if you have a burning app on your computer like Nero or Roxio, you do not need to do any converting. In your burning app, just select the create audio CD option, drag your mp3 files to the window, and the app will automatically decode the mp3s to audio cd format (linear PCM) as it burns.

thats what i thought happens... but i did that and it wont play on my cd player? :{ any ideas why?

i'm using Nero 5.5 i selected make an audio cd so i'm not sure what happened i reinstalled... so yeh :(

so you select create audio cd, then drag your mp3 files to the burn cd window? what happens when you try and play the cd. does it not read the disc at all? have you tried another cd player?

yeh i did it the way you described.... the song numbers register on the cd player... as in it registers the 21 songs on the cd goes to each one but wont play the number keeps flashing wehn i hit play (i have a discman and it works in there... cant understand whats going on :(

so the audio cd will play in your portable cd player, but not in another one? well that pretty much means that there is nothing wrong with the cd or burning process. is the cd player that won't read it an older cd player? because some older ones won't read CDRs. is it a CDRW? Those are often even less compatible with older players. if it is a new model, then perhaps it needs to be cleaned out. you can get special cd cleaners with little brushed for the lens on the cd. also if you have the manual, look in it to see if it reads CDRs and CDRWs. you can probably google the model number as well to get more info about it.

the only thing that made me think was my friends burnt cd plays in the cd player (on the same brand of cd) so i'm not sure only difference was he copied it from a cd not a mp3 playlist

so he probably just made a copy of the original cd, instead of making a audio cd from mp3s then. well you can try doing that with your burner. get an audio cd and do the "copy cd" function in Nero, and see if that works. you can also try burning at a slower speed, that might increase readability.

What are the advantages of burning at lower speeds? I choose the max speed on Nero which is 48x I think. I haven't encountered a problem yet. Won't choosing a lower speed slow down the burning process?

I'm not sure there's any real evidence, but I've heard rumors for years that burning at lower speeds equals a better written disc. I personally have never had any problems, I burn my audio cds at 48X with my lite-on, and never had any problems. but it was just something I thought he could try to see if it works. there is this article under the guides section about it:

Thanks for the info. unless I really notice an error in any of the burns I do then i'll continue to stick with 48x.

yeah same here...the quality of the burn probably depends more on the media and burner not speed
