DVD+R DL Burn Failures with Lite-On SOWN 1635S + DVD Decrypter

Until recently I owned a Lite-On 1673S DVD burner and was consistently able to burn DVD+R DL discs when setting the write speed on DVD Decrypter so that it would write at 2.4x. Every double layer disc i burned this way would play perfectly on my late model Panasonic set-top player.

Then a few weeks ago I replaced the drive with a Lite-On 1635S DVD burner with essentially identical specs. The only difference in specs being that this new drive also supports DVD-R dual layer discs as well. But with this new drive, I am unable to burn a DVD+R DL that will play on my (same as before) set-top player even though the only thing that has changed is the burner. The DVD Decrypter settings are unchanged, I am burning the discs as book type DVD-ROM. The other odd thing is that even with the write speed set to 2.4x, DVD Decrypter reports that the write speed is 2.5x. And when I ratcheted down the write speed setting in DVD Decrypter to 2.0x, it still ramped up to and wrote the discs at 2.5x.

Any ideas/suggestions as to what is causing this and the best fix would be much appreciated.
