I have an OEM Sony DW-Q28A, that has a very weird problem. I can burn CD-Rs and CD-RWs no bother, BUT when I put in a DVD+RW it simply will not have anything to do with it. The Explorer window opens with "Erase this CD-RW" on the left hand side - but it's blank! If I click it, Windows says there's a problem and it cannot erase the disk. If I try to copy something across, Windows says there's a problem and can't copy it. I'm trying to burn some audiobooks to a DVD for storage.

If I look in My Computer, if the drive is empty Windows sees it as D: DVD-RW Drive. If there's a DVD-RW in the drive, Windows sees it D: CD Drive. I've updated the firmware, twiddled around in Device Manager all to no avail. I've dug up my old copy of Nero 5.5 which doesn't see either of my burners (I also have a CD-RW drive) so that's not much help. Do I need to buy some software? Or is my media at fault? (It's Tevion DVD+Rewritable 4x max) Am I just being stupid?
