Nope, not possible, you gotta have a dvd burner, although i have heard of it being possible putting a small dvd to a cd.
Thats just one thing, you would need a swap magic card thing to, its possible with gameshark, but its so much easier with swap magic + a swap magic card.

it is possible, if you make a dvd rip you can burn it with a cd-r drive.
use the ganmeshark to boot up a burned swap magic disc .Then boot up the backup ps2 game.

You might be able to do a cog swap or knife trick (look those up on the net to see if you need anything besides the gameshark v2) but the problem is this, with only a cd burner you can't burn games directly 'cause most games are DVD. If you go the dvd-rip route then you'll have problems because of the TOC issues. So save yourself some headache and get a mod or at the least swap magic.

For the price of a game, you can get a good dvd burner. Then you can play all the backups you want with your setup (as long as your gameshark is the right version). You will need to make yourself a slide card, but thats not hard.
V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

Let me simplify this.
There are probably ways to play some of these games using CD-R discs. But you will get a lot of headaches and many games will not work.
So here is what you need to do and I think it is the easiest way to do it.
Buy a DVD Burner. They have some that cost $50 that will work.
Buy Swap Magic with the magic switches or flip top lid (depending on your PS2 type).
Buy DVD-R discs.
Expect to pay $100. I think it is the easiest way to go.

Dpuma is right, go out and buy a Pioneer, Sony and Plextor DVD Burner which should cost you between $40-70 depending on the model. Go out and buy Verbatim disks. I like the fliptop over the swap cards, but that is a matter of preference. I also like Action Replay Max over swap magic, but same thing, matter of preference.
