I picked up a shiney new white PSP1000 while in Japan in November. Firmware is 2.0. now, i wanna play region 1 UMDs.
i have no interest in homebrew apps, so the downgrade to 1.5 option is kinda the last place i would want to go (especially since i'm not too keen on the possible bricking of my new toy).
i've heard rumour that i should be able to upgrade my JPN2.0 firmware to a US2.5 then US2.6, and i should be good to go, but i'm not sure how true that rumour is. and if it is true, what are the steps/hoops to go through?
i take it you are talking about UMD movies, i think this should work.
Download WABWAB Launcher 2.5F and simply press L & R at the same time and a black screen should appear saying LOADING UMD. If this does not help i have another option.
thanks zipsa, but as i mentioned, i'm looking to avoid downgrading to 1.5, as i have no interest in playing ISOs or running homebrews and the like.
i'm more looking for a workaround that will work with my current firmware version or later.

ok here is how you upgrade the psp to run umd videos from other countrys
you need
1.psp firmware 2.00 japanese
2.psp u.s firmware 2.50 english u.s version
3.psp u.s firmware 2.60 english u.s version
now warning this only works for region 1,2,4 umd movies and some japanese porn but don't worry about that unless you watch porn of course
once you update in this order you should be able to play any umd movie you want
now the hard part
you must upgrade in this order listed here which means you need to find the 2.50 upgrade eboot somewhere on the internet because it is no longer on sonys site the us psp version 2.60 is located at
www.playstation.com
select north america
then select psp portable from the tab on the page
select firmware update
select download by pc
download and install it after the us 2.50
i had to do this in order for my uk version of spiderman 2 to work
awesome. this is what i'm after. now, i'm all worried about brickliness...
as in... what are the ods i end up with a really fancy looking paperweight if i try this? i'm a bit of a chicken sh*t when it comes to this whole thing ;)
i guess there's only one way to find out, though, isnt' there?
