please please please respond I know you addicts are probabally sick to the back teeth of these little quiries but i will try to ask all the questions i need all in one go.
Ok
1.My Ps2 is a V9 iv'e heard dvd's "made in Japan" rule and dvd's "made in Taiwan suck ass" so I have bought Mr.Dvd dvd+r's, Philips dvd+r's and Mirror dvd-r's now the Mr.Dvd's load alright but skip and stuff as does the philips dvd+r but that takes like 1/2 an hour to load and the mirror dvd-r's don't read at all. Im using swap magic 3.0 but will have 3.6 by christmas (I hope). So tell me what media I should use?
2. What speed is good is the slower the better?
Also my ps2 plays a friends DATAWRITE +r disks games pretty well as well as Ridisk -r's which leads me to conclude that my ps2 supports +r and -r formats.
3. So is it my burner? at all ist a TSSTcorp something i bur all my disks so far at the slowest possible speeds normally thats 2x or 2.4x
please help me in time for christmas. I don't mind personal messages as well but please don't quote me a previous forum cos I can assure you Iv'e read them all.

Try some good media like Sony or Verbatim and try updating the drivers for your burner. I usually burn my games at 4x but most people suggest using the slowest possible speed.

Here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341 is a thread about high quality media and crap media that you'll need to know. Do a search and you'll eventually come across a useful thread in due time about "how to burn/backup or rebuild PS2 games."
Number 1 rule of thumb is DON'T USE cheap media, and YES... it is recommend "Made In Japan" media for the best. Number 2 rule is DON'T BURN more than 4X period.

Media is a weird subject as everyone uses different types
and will tell you how great they are. But that doesn't mean they will work for you.
But here is what i use that works for all mine in both my V7 & V12
Philips DVD-R 8X speed
Burn them with DVD Decrypter at 4X
Taiyo Yudens are said to be the best
Philips, Ritek, Verbatim, TDK also have worked well for people
I have tried +R but never had much luck with them myself, i always use -R
You may want to search here for posts on "Booktype"
If your burner supports this feature you can change the settings in DVD Decrypter when you are burning a +R disc so it burns it as
a DVD-Rom rather than a DVD+R
DVD-Rom is the format of an original game, and it is said it will make a world of difference in how well your back ups play.
My burner can not do this so i can not say for sure how it works.
That is why i just use the DVD-R as they work for me every time.
I have found that 8X speed DVD's burned at 4X seem to work best.
looking for updated firmware for your burner is also a good idea.
This will help greatly as far as the burn quality and how well it handles the different media codes on the DVD's you use.
Mine was kind of sketchy out of the box, but after updating the
firmware it worked like a champ.
http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php you can find firmware for all types of burners at the above link
to find out your current version do this:
1. go to control panel
2. go to system
3. go to hardware tab
3. click on device manager
4. click on the + beside CD/DVD drives
5. Right click on your DVD drive and choose properties
6. look under drivers tab for the number it lists there
7. go to the firmware page and put in the name and model of your burner, like mine is Sony DRU-700A
then you can see if the number you have is current, or if a newer
version is there, if it is download it and unzip it if needed.
then just double click on the ile and follow any instructions it gives you.

i would say DVD-R all the way.
Used them for years now with no problems.
I wouldn't spend a lot of time looking for opinions as they will
all be very different. Everyone uses something different.
It all depends on what your burner and PS2 like best.
It s really a trial & error sort of thing.
But if you go with the brands i mentioned above i can tell
you that those are what most of the people use.

@supergaz
Your best bet would be a DVD-R for now. However, I prefer DVD+R over DVD-R all the way. I can just have Nero or DVD Decrypter book type them into DVD-ROM and bingo.... free of worries.
Yes, DVD-ROM is the best, safest and indeed it is the "universal" format for both original DVD movies and original PS2 games. All PS2 games and movies are pressed as DVD-ROM formats only. Therefore, your PS2 console can play any original DVD movies and PS2 games easily.
You need to go to www.cdfreaks.com and post your burner's model/make and ask to see if there is any hacked firmware or if there is any special book type utility tool that support NEC's burner to book type DVD+R, DVD+R DL into DVD-ROM. If there is one... then more power to your burner.
Again, I personally prefer DVD+R over DVD-R. Hence... my PS2 is a v9 and it can play both -R/+R beautifully, but the fact is that, DVD+R is more advanced and with the help from "book typing" them as DVD-ROM, that's is the sweetiest thing man.
