Hi,
I am finally getting Wifi highspeed internet within the week, no more dialup wohoo. So anyway here's my question.
My computer is fairly new and I know it does have a network card. When I get highspeed internet im going to probably have the line run staight to my computer. What will I need to also share the internet connection with my xbox 360? Most of the time my xbox will be sitting no farther than 20 feet from my computer so what's the simplest setup?. If I do decide to move my computer or xbox from room to room whats the easiest way to do wireless routing? I was looking at the wireless adapter for the xbox 360 but im not sure if I will need it or not. Any help is greatly appreciated. would like to be able to share my media files from my computer to my xbox if possible.

i had some problems with this. So i went to pc world and they talked me through. They gave me the most simple router to set up. It took literally 5 mins. Its called a Belkin wireless G router 2.4ghz-802.11g. Then you would set it up. If you had any laptops wanting to be connected or more pcs, then you would need a fast usb adaptor or super fast usb adaptor.
If you are connecting a xbox 360 then you will need to buy a xbox 360 wirless network adaptor. This costs £60 and it will pick up your new home network as soon as you plug it in.
I have connected to xbox 360 live in literally 5 mins. It is so easy Belkin rule
I hope this has helped you.

What Internet Service Provider are you getting? A lot of ISP's these days will supply you with a free router. If your ISP doesn't do this, just go to your local electronics store and pick up a Wireless G router with 4 port switch. This way you can use both wired and wireless connections. The wireless capability won't cost you much more, so you might as well get it.
As the brand is concerned I recommend getting a Linksys WRT54G router. The WRT54G is probably the most popular and most problem-free router to date. You can probably find it for around $50 to $60 (American Dollars) at your local electronics store. I am not sure how much they cost in your country.
You can probably get a cheaper router for around 30 to 40 American dollars, but you must realize routers are not all the same and they vary in quality. I don't recommend most of these cheaper routers, because they can be flaky and buggy (i.e. internet connection drops). I have owned many different routers, and by far the Linksys WRT54G is the fastest and most reliable.
Hope this helps.

I bet you could use an universal Linkys Wireless Game Adapter. You could buy one for nearly half of what MS is charging for the XBOX 360 unit. It might be a bit trickier to set up though.

At the moment, the only wireless adapter that works seamlessly with the 360 is the Microsoft one. If your 360 is going to be close to where your router is, you might as well hook it up with a cable.
There are special wireless adapters that can hook up through the ethernet jack, but these will probably cost you as much as the Microsoft supplied adapter. They are also harder to set up.
If you are new to networking, I recommend getting the Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless adapter as it will probably be the easiest to set up.

Hello, I used the Linkys Wireless Game Adapter for mine that I purchased at Wal-Mart for cheap and it works perfect. Its quick to set up and I can also steam photos and music from my computer to my x360 with this adapter. I will say though that the x360 will read the connection as a wired connection not a wireless with this adapter. It will set up its-sef, no work you have to do.

Hi its me again. Dont go for any of that Linkskys stuff. I had this and it messed up my IP address. Also i couldnt set it up, it just wouldnt let me, the instructions are useless and i would never go for them again. At the moment the 360 wireless network adaptor works fine, it may cost £60 but it picks up the home network straight away. It is worth the extra money, if you are with telewest broadband they are more tricky as vertually no routers work for them. Belkin does though its great, and very cheap, overall i think that the router and the xbox 360 wireless networking adaptor could cost you £100. Which is not a bad deal, you couls try a wireless gaming adaptor but im not sure if the 360 will be compatible with it. Its also harder to set up.

I had no problems with the Linksys. This wireless gaming adapter that Liksys makes does exactly the same as microsofts for half the cost. you plug it in, push the button and go, its connected to your router. Any wireless gaming adapter will work.

this is the easiest setup..buy a Linksys WRT54G...doesnt matter if its version 5 because the newest firmware rocks.so then you just get a 50 ft rj45 cable and find the neatest way to hide it around the room, lets say staple it or hide it under carpet. the cable rj45 is going to be faster (not much though) than the wirelles game adapter provided by Linksys... and your saving lots o money.you can then hook up you router to the xbox and to the computer with a fast as hell speed. remeber Linksys is the better brand....dont go for d-link or belkin...
