I have had my burner since September, and I have yet to burn a backup dvd. My burner works great with burning downloads. I rip with dvd shrink and dvd decrypter. Here's my log report, if anybody could pinpoint anything that I am doing wrong I would very much appreciate it!

This burner's firmware is up to 0046

The other one looks up to date.
Try the firmware update, cant see anything else that could be giving you problems. The media looked good. And the burn failed on the drive with the updated firmware.

Your right GlueEater, i was just trying to fix everything..
Here is what Nero says about unspecified target error:

Normally caused by CD-R or CD-RW media the recorder is unable to work with. Or the media could be defective, dirty or just not compatible with the recorder.
Cables are known to cause this: loose cables, damaged cables, loose power connectors, etc.
Defective recorders are known to cause this. Test with another demo software to rule out software as the cause. If two software programs have the same symptom, your recorder may need service.
If the drive is being polled by another software's driver, it could hang the bus. Uninstall any other CD recording software you may have had on your system, as well as Nero. Then use Registry cleaner software to clean you registry. At last try a fresh install of our latest Nero release.

I used DVDfab and DVD Shrink, and it actually burned up to 30%..but then it stopped heres my log

You are writing to close to the edge, try to write no further than 4300MB. And try burning at 4x. Also try diff. disc. Taiyo Yuden to Verbatim, Verbs are on sale at best buy, 15 bucks for 50 pack. Sony, fuji and maxell are fine so long as they are made in Japan.
