You need to edit out your serial numbers in this post. Go to the pencil symbol, and put xxx or something over your numbers. They start with 1A22
Your version of Nero is behind. 6.6.0.18 is the latest 6x version.
Here is the link to the Nero update:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.php Don't get the INCD package, you wont need it.
This one shows firmware to be up to BYX5

you have Roxio on your system, and this conflicts with nero. It needs to be removed with the roxio zapper, but i dont have a link to that right now. Update your firmware, remove roxio, update nero, and try again. Sorry i didn't have much time to look thru the log. Maybe others will post what i missed. Gotta get to work.

What if the Nero ASPI is listed as fine but System ASPI shows as "corrupt"?? Must I be concerned ??
I have had problems using NeroVision Express3 where by after transcoding to finale burn, it does not recognize my blank DVDR. Used Sony,Maxwell,Fuji but NeroVision Express3 fails. Opened from sealed package.
My LG GSA4040B has most recent firmware, XP Pro., SP2, AMD2800,1G memory.
I have used NeroVision Express 3 before and didn't seem to be a problem then.

Thanks. I did download ForceASPI, used Nero's InfoTool and both Nero's and System ASPI indicates "working okay". Though I didn't try to burn any DVD's tonite,
Though how does System "ASPI" get corrupted???? I do use NeroVision Exp. to burn mpeg files, Nero digital for Ipod and sometimes I use AnyDVD first and then Nero Recode.
Anyways, thanks for the info and I will try to burn using NeroVision Exp. v3 for some mpeg files I have.

Im not sure how ASPI gets corrupted, but i have seen it say system aspi corrupted on my friends computer, and the install of ASPI fixed his problem. He has kids so maybe they did something?? Anyways, a good working system aspi is very important to burning. If its working fine, you never even know it is there. Have it get corrupted, or missing, and it will let you know how important it is.
Try burning again, and post back if you have problems.

I did use NeroVision Express and was able to burn mpeg file so I am able to using home set DVD player. This after I downloaded ForceASPI drivers. My system ASPI reads "installed and working properly" after running Nero's InfoTool.
I will though run InfoTool more frequently and or when I encounter encoding problems.
Thanks again.

Glad to see you are burning away again. Sometimes ASPI installs easily, and other times you have to force it. Newer versions of windows are not even supposed to need it, the application does all the aspi work.

Try not using Shrink and Nero to do a dual layer backup. If you do not already have it dl DVD Decrypter and rip in ISO read mode open your MDS file and then use ISO write mode. You do not need Shrink for a dual layer backup, and it is not advisable to use it for this type of backup.

jman07,
Quote: CdRomPeripheral : SCSIVAX DVD/CD-ROM 2.7a Vax347s Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off
DMA is OFF for that drive and needs to be ON.
How to fix it? http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038 You should also go back and edit out your serial number from the log. It starts with IA20- . Just click on the pencil symbol next to your post, and it will open up the edit screen.

No seek complete
and before that we had a Medium Error.
I only use Verbatim DVD9 s and they have never failed.
Here is what Nero says about that error:
Quote: 18. Why do I get a 'No seek complete' error message?
This error can be caused by the following:
Old firmware on the recorder - Please contact the manufacturer of the recorder in order to get the latest firmware for your recorder. An old firmware can cause compatibility problems as well as burn failures. Firmware upgrades for your recorder are provided only by the manufacturer of your recorder. All firmware upgrades and support for upgrading your recorder?s firmware must be provided by either the recorder manufacturer or the OEM you purchased your recorder bundle from. We can not assist you in this, sorry.
For example if you have a Yamaha Recorder, you would go to the www.yamaha.com website in order to obtain the latest firmware for your recorder and instructions on how to upgrade your recorder?s firmware. Same goes for all other recorder manufacturers, such as Sony, Pioneer, LG, etc...
To determine what kind of recorder you have, assuming you do not know for sure, you can use our Nero Info Tool to obtain this information. To locate the Nero Info Tool, follow the steps below.
For Nero Burning ROM 6 or Nero Express 6 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
For Nero Burning Rom 5.5 or Nero Express 5.5 go to:
'Start -> All Programs -> Ahead Nero -> Nero Toolkit -> Nero InfoTool'
Once Nero Info Tool is launched, make sure your recorder is selected in the top left of the window. Use the drop-down box located there to select your recorder or any recorder. Once selected, it displays the manufacturer as well as the model of the recorder you have. Be sure to make a note of this. Also, once you have your recorder selected, you can click on the 'DRIVE' tab and in the top right of this window you will see the current firmware version (among other information) you have on your recorder. Compare this version with the latest firmware provided by the manufacturer of your recorder and upgrade if available.
Legal disclaimer:
"Nero AG is not liable for firmware updates as these updates are not offered by Nero AG. All updates are performed at one?s own risk. Nero AG will not be liable for the legality of the firmware."
Poor media - Try more than one brand of media. For example: TDK, Verbatim, Imation, Yamaha, HP, etc.
Poor IDE cable or incorrect cable - For higher end recorders these days if you use the 40pin cable you can have all sorts of unusual symptoms. It would be best to use an ATA-133 80 wire cable.
Driver conflicts - If you have or had another CD recording software installed on your system, its drivers could be conflicting with our software. This is rare for this symptom, but it does occur. Uninstall any other recording software and make sure all its drivers have been removed with it. Then reinstall Nero and make sure to use the latest version we have posted on our website.
Defective recorder - The optical head on your recorder may need cleaning or servicing. Or it's possible the circuit board on your recorder has an open coil or blown diode or resistor. Any of these could cause the error. Only solution would be to send the drive in for service to the recorder manufacturer.
So try some GOOD media first. Your firmware looked beyond up 2 date as i could only see version 2.88 listed for your drive, and it show it has 2.98 loaded. ???
As arniebear stated, you dont need to go thru a shrinking program as you are putting everything on a DVD9 with no compression. I have used Shrink with a DVD9, just to see how it would do, and it worked fine. You have to change the target size to DVD9, but other than that, it worked. The ISO read/ MDS write method is the best, as it preserves the original layer break, and should give you an exact copy of the original. It is also the fastest way to copy a DVD9.

In alkohol's guide i linked to it said if you are still having DMA off after doing the controllers, to un-install the burners. Did you try that also? After each un-install, a reboot is needed also. This reboot causes windows to load the driver back up again when it sees a drive without a driver.
I remember reading a thread where this guy couldn't get DMA to come on, and tried everything. Finally he had to take the battery out of the motherboard and put it back in. I guess he did it to cause the system to loose memory of a DMA off?? Anyway, it worked for him by doing that, when nothing else would. I will check around to see if there is anything else that can be done. I think there is a program that forces DMA on, but i can't remember what that program is. Usually un-install of drivers and reboot fixes DMA off issues.

@jman07
When i saw your first post i thought you couldn't get an original movie to copy. Then i saw the next post worded slightly differently and that one cleared things up a bit.
The best way to get the most compatibility with stand alones is to use DVD+R media and booktype it to DVD-ROM. Even DVD+R DL can be booktyped, but not DVD-R media. With that said, sometimes you have to try different formats and brands of media to find what YOUR stand alones like. I have a panasonic dvd recorder and it is supposed to like DVD-R the best. Yet, i sometimes get illegal disc error, or un-supported format error when trying a DVD-R. When that happens, i take the -R and put it in my PC and burn that movie to a DVD+R booktyped to DVD-ROM and it works everytime.
Now, sometimes you can run in to a bad pressing of an original DVD, but that kind of error usually gives you CRC errors that dont go away with cleaning the disc. The only cure for a bad pressing is to exchange the bad disc for a new one, and that usually fixes it. Twist of fate might give you 2 bad presses in a row, but not very likely. Nero CD-DVD speed will tell you if your backups are booktyped to DVD-ROM. Just check it out under the Disc info tab.
Here is what Sony +R booktyped to DVD-ROM looks like:
The disc is finalized in this example. Making your disc "multi-session" will leave the disc open for more data writes, and until disc is finalized, it will not read in stand alones either.

Is that the whole log there, or did you edit something out of the middle? It doesnt look like a complete log, and it cut off right when it was going to tell me something.
Quote: 5:58:16 PM #4 NEROAPI 7 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3095
Error:\nCannot connect TRF.
usually we see a bunch of stuff before the error is reported, and sometimes that stuff can divulge the real problem.
I could hazzard a guess as to what TRF is, but id only be guessing.
From what parts of the log i can see, is one or both of those drives external? If both are internal, then you need to check your system aspi files. If one or both of them are external, you could still check, but it might not be a problem. Nero info tool will let you know if System ASPI is bad.
Also whenever i try to do a disc to disc burn and get a failed burn, i extract the movie to HD using DVD Decrypter, and burn from HD to disc, and that seems to have a better chance of success. And it should be a DVD5 to DVD5 or DVD9 to DVD9 for straight copy, but no mixing up disc capacities, like trying to copy a DVD9 to DVD5 without shrinking will give you a failed burn..

Oh, and yes 1 is external the other internal,Nero info. shows aspi drivers are installed and working, v4.60(1021).I dont have a problem burning from the HD, but thats the reason i bought the external dvd so i can just burn straight to other dvd drive.
