hello,
i have a slimline ps2 premodded which i got from a local retailer. i create my own backups from time to time and i tried running the backups with action replay max. however, i couldnt get any of my backups to run after enabling the cheats! theoretically, they should run fine cause im using a modified ps2, but apparently this is not the case. any help and tips are greatly appreciated.

First things first, what kind of mod chip do you have in your PS2? From what it sounds like, you can play backups without cheats, but with cheats is a different story.

im really not sure as to what kind of modchip is installed in my ps2. i do know that during bootup i see the word infinity 1.38 at the bottom of the playstation 2 boot screen. the modchip may be a matrix infinity or it could be a clone of matrix like modbo.

Yeah its either or. I say its the real Matrix Infinity cuz it shows the version number right by it, but I'm not sure if the fakes show that too to look real. I also read that the fakes can just do the basics and not any of the other features the real chip can do. I'm gonna ask around and see if its a fake or not.

Well do your backups play okay? If it is a legit Matrix Infinity, your backups should play just by inserting them in the disc tray, like you would an original. Your firmware is way outdated, the current release is v1.75. You need to make sure you have a legit Matrix Infinty before updating the firmware, as flashing a clone chip with the Matrix firmware will likely fry the clone chip. thanks for the replies.
my backups play ok without any hassles. its just only if i try to run the backups after loading action replay that has a problem. actually, the funny thing is only burned backup games refuse to load after action replay. other retail backups (pdvds) i got from some stores here have no problem running after loading the cheats. my guess, is that its possible that the booktyping might be the problem. problem is how do i change the booktyping to dvd-rom if im using DVD-R?

You can't booktype for DVD-R's, only for DVD+R's. If you meant that you have DVD+R's that you wish to booktype to DVD-R's, check here:

53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).
