I apologize in advance if this question shouldn't be asked here, I did look and try to comply...

I have a Dell laptop, two usb ports, it come set up for USB 2 via Windows, I am wondering if simple and fairly inexpensive process to switch out one or both the USB ports so I will have faster peripherals. I tried to use a separate USB2 that plugged into the regular USB and it was a mess. Thanks in advance for any ideas, I appreciate it.

both ports are USB1 but when checking Windows, the drivers or whatever it is (it's been awhile since I researched usb2 so I need to go back and read up again)that Windows uses to accommodate USB2 is already on the laptop. Basic reason I want usb2 is to speed up read/write on my external burner.
