i don't put any faith in Nero's verification process, i've dissected far too many logfiles where it has given spurious results. plus, certainly when it comes to DVD burning (movies specifically), a 100% completed burn just doesn't mean that movie is gonna play (ie the data on the disc is not guaranteed to be 100% intact/watchable). sometimes factors such as crap media etc just don't get caught by Nero, even burning on a top notch disc with ALL settings totally up to date doesn't guarantee success. What i do personally is a CRC checking program such as dvdinfopro (monthly free trial) from www.dvdinfopro.com.
Now as i only use top notch blank media and keep ALL my settings up to date ie firmware, sufficient free memory yada yada yada, i only have to use CRC checking when i change disc type, or buy a new burner, or whatever. i'll CRC check a few discs to make sure everything seems fine, then the main verification is sofa and lots of movie watching :)
of course we all get the odd bad burn from time to time, ie i'll be watching a movie then get the proverbial freezing/skipping of the movie, mostly near the end of a film, but sometimes anywhere in the film. I'd CRC check the disc in question and i'd find CRC errors ie corruption. then (if i remembered what other discs i burnt at the same time) i'd CRC check those also , to see if this was an isolated case or indicative of a bigger problem/bad batch of discs or whatever
