Aight heres whats up. i have an hp dvd burner and a sony dvd rom. they wont detect cds or auto run them when you put them into the trays. however if you click on one of the drives in my computer, even if it says theres no disk in it, they will open the disk for you. strange. they wont detect any type of cd or dvd or game, but when you reboot with a cd in either drive they detect. my ide cables are good ive changd them twice to see if that was it. my roms are fine. this is happeing on another computer i recently built, also, with almsot the same hardware. the first computer this started on was one i built in may of 05. however this issue didnt arise till recently. all my drivers are updated and i have Windows XP pro with SP2 on both comps. i myself think SP2 is the problem, however i dont know the fix. in device manager there are no ! so i know nothing is worng. ive built and sold computers for the last couple of years now, but now i have a software issue i cant resolve. is there an update for sp2 i need? or what else should i try. please no hardware suggestions because ive ran everthing correctly on both computers and one is one of the top 10 fastest in the world. thanks so much for you help.

how old are you? Did you try buying another dvd drive, cos that one might be fault. cos i had one like urz it will only boot on bios or dos screen; it is strange. n e i bought a new dvd drive and luckily this one work, i connected the IDE ribbon cables and power. you should try and get another disc drive. The problem i got i ahve lots of hardware devices on my computer such as vga video controller and ethernet controller etc and non of them is installed. THATS WORSE because i have to find the appropiate program or find a appropiate cd to install all of those drivers. lol even worse i cant watch dvds, no sound, i am connecting to u with a usb cable for the internet. i have about 10 unknown devices. and i cant wait until install them. EVEN MORE STRANGE i have the bestest processor D with 2.80ghz processor speed with 320gb, very high spec computer i just bought it, with no devices installed, i need to find a something to install do u know anything?
