howdy, i have a sony vaio computer, and i currently have a 128mb ati radeon graphics card. if i were to buy a new card, would it have to be radeon? are all cards compatible with any computer? and i so, is the cheapest 256 card way better than a 128, because i know you can get better 256mb cards, than others. dont understand the differences between better or worse 256 cards.although i would like a 512mb card. but dont want to pay over £350, would this be possible to get one at this price? and if i want to buy more gig, any will work?

Yes if you want to upgrade your card you can go with either an ati or an nvidia card, it doesnt matter. The only thing that matters is the connection type. You need to figure out if the card you have now is either agp 8x or a pci express x16 card, any manual that came with your vaio should say what type of graphics cards it supports or just find the model you own on the internet and it should tell you. You said you have a 128mb card now, a 256mb card is better but video memory is only part of the card, you also have to look at the processor in the card. I own a 128mb nvidia card and its probably faster than alot of cheaper 256mb cards bc it has a newer and faster processor. If you give me a price range i would be glad to help you pick out a card.

Those two cards are very very similar, both have 4 pixelpipelines, identical technologies(openGL1.5, directX9.0), but I would have to say the GeForce 6200 is a better card. Sure it has only 128MB of memory, but it is faster memory than the FX5500's, and it has a better fill rate which will result in better performance(more frames per second).

Yeah thats pretty nice. Might want to get a fan on that tho...512MB of GDDR2 memory should heat up pretty nicely. Other than that, nice card.

That 9600SE is only a little better than the 6200. Same technologies, DirectX9, OpenGL1.5, only better Fill Rate... definitely not worth the extra $20.

Actually, you would have to pay 60$ extra for mail and rebate. For the ati you dont. Although you will get the 60$ bak, you will get it back in like 2-6months.
For the ATI, there is no mail and rebate extra fee.

You'd still get the $60 back tho. But, the 9600SE is still better than the 6200, and if you feel comfortable with buying it, then go for it.

Yea i'm getting my money back today. This card really sucks. best buy dindg include bandwith spec.. So the card has only like 3.2\gb bandwith because its 64-bit. A REALy badd bad card. 6200 is far better than it.
