I found this forum today and since i've been using mainly DVD Shrink for awhile I read about using AnyDVD and Nero Recode 2 so since I paid the money for Nero 6, I would get a little more use out of it. I was hoping to save a little more time since DVD Shrink takes so long, but Nero Recode took just as long 2 hrs and 20 minutes (I did the backup solely through Recode). But while searching through the forums I read some things and changed my burner to DMA from PIO (or whatever its called) and added an APSI layer to my system (figured it couldn't hurt)). So here the problem. I was going to try on the fly burning (i know its not great but I was just playing around) and when i load the movie into my secondary drive which is a DVD/CD-ROM, My Nero Recode freezes. I can't kill the program through task manager. I have to reboot. There are no error logs cause it just freezes. Is the setup wrong to do this in the first place? Do both devices have to burners? I have no trouble backing up dvd so far when using my burner and saving to hard drive and then writing to disk? Any information would be helpful and if there is any information I could give ya'll to help me just let me know. Thanks.

First off log file wasn't where creaky indicated, it was located here: C:\Program Files\Ahead\NeroVision\NeroFiles so I hope this is the right one

Since I made this disc, I have corrected the DMA, it is now on. Got rid of InCD with the cleaner from Nero, and added an ASPI Layer to the system.

let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

sorry, didn't know where Recode's log is as i don't use it myself

- i'm not sure if that's the latest firmware revision, however the firmware is recognising the discs fine, see here -

- 4459MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

okay, thanks for the help but the question/problem here is with Nero Recode freezing when using my secondary drive as the source drive to read from. there are no logs from this since all it does is lock recode up and i have to reboot because i can't kill the app. As far as the firmware is concerned, good luck finding out. People can't even agree on the maker of this drive. And went to HP's website and haven't seen anything. Also I have adjusted my target size. This disc was burned before I started reading on your forums. Which are very helpful btw. As far as InCD. I unistalled it and used the Nero InCD clean tool to get rid of it. I'm trying this before completely unistalling because I purchased the download version and is alot to download to reinstall

so it's stil happening AFTER sorting out DMA ?, obviously DMA being OFF on any drives drags the other drives down to the slowest speed

yes, still happening after everything is sorted, but if i can't get it to work no biggie. I can still use my main drive like I have been. I was just looking for a way to cut down on burn time more than 2 hrs is a long time for one disc.
