im using an ALBA standalone to convert my vhs to dvd. i've had no problems so far untill now. i've formatted the disk and set everything as normal but when i begin to record i get the following message "copy not allowed" can anyone help me please
You will need a video stabilizer or something else that will correct the video stream. I read that connecting the VCR to a Tivo and then the Tivo to the DVD Recorder works or something like that. There will surely be more advice shortly, so check back and see what others have to say.
thanx for the reply,,,

1 - It is possible that your DVD Recorder is only compatible with DVD+R. Read the instruction manual to make sure. Make sure there are no smudges, scratches or anything else like that on your DVD+R. Also, the disc has to be formatted to work on a standalone recorder. It is usually an automatic process, but look at your instruction manual for something on formatting. Also read the troubleshooting section as this may help some times.
There should be some type of error code displayed on the player as well. These usually appear on the display on the front of the unit. If there is one, write it down. Then, you should contact the manufacturer and tell them the error code. Also, make sure you tell them what type of discs you are using. There may be a compatibility problem with the DVDs you are using.
2 - It is possible that these discs are not good quality media, but a DVD Burner should still recognize them.
First make sure there are no device conflicts and that you are in DMA mode.
Go to Device manager. Right click on "My Computer" and select "manage". Then select "device manager" on the new window and go to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers". Right click on the "Primary IDE Channel" and select "properties". When the new window pops up, make sure it says that the device is working properly. Next, go to the "Advanced Settings" tab and make sure you are in DMA mode.
Next, go to the "Driver" tab and make sure your drivers are updated. Finally, go to the "Resources" tab and make sure it says "No Conflicts".
Do all this for the Secondary Channel as well.
If everything is fine there, try uninstalling and reinstalling the burner in your device manager. Right click on "My Computer" and select "manage". Then select "device manager" on the new window and go to "DVD/CD-Rom drives". Expand it and then right click on your burner. Select "Uninstall". Then reboot your PC and it will reinstall automatically.
Also, wait for some more advice from others before trying anything to get as many opinions as you can, especially on the media you are using. Sometime bad media can be cause of problems, and I am not familiar with your media or your burner.
