OK so here are the specs i'm working with.
The PC i have has a cable modem
The Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000
Pentium 725 (1.60GHz/2MB cache/5363MHz FSB)
15.4" WXGA LCD Panel
512MB shared DDR2, 533MHZ 2 Dimms
ATI Mobility Radeon X300 64MB Hypermemory Video Card
60GB ATA HDD, Windows XO Media Center Addition
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and modem
24X CD-RW/DVD Combo drive, wish it would have been the
DVD BUrner but i will fix that and the memory very soon
Cyberlink PowerDVD v5.5 decoding software
Intel Pro/Wireless 2200 Internal wireless (802.11B/g,54mbps)
53WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Battery
and a bunch of software of course

Now what i need to know Is a good wireless router to buy. I am looking for something $200 or under that will give me top speeds for this. With as little additional equipment as possible.
Also how will a router effect my PC with cable modem's speed? Will it limit my PC's speeds to the speed of the router i buy?
And does the Pro/Wireless 2200 (802.11b/g) mean that there is no need for any additional equipment other than the wireless router?
give me any info you can for the best set up. I want to be able to use the laptop anywhere in the house, i will also need to hook my Xbox through it as well.

go with Linksys...they're pretty much top dog when it comes to routers

any router you get won't hinder your broadband speed. most cable systems top out at 4 Mb/s, and routers are 100 Mb/s, so you have plenty of headroom.

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

oh and if you get a wireless router, then yes, you won't need any other equipment. your modem will plug into the router, and the router has a built in hub (usually four ports) to connect your xbox and other wired network cards to, and also has built in wireless system to connect to your laptop.

I can't vouch for other brands, but linksys routers are very easy to set up. they come with a CDROM you pop in and you just follow the step by step guide to configure your ISP to connect your internet, then you setup your network and wireless information. a ten minute tops procedure. you should be able to find a linksys wireless router for well under $200...they usually go for around $80 to $100
