I've been burning stuff for a couple of years now and all of a sudden within the past few weeks I haven't been able to burn anything. The time left always runs down to 0 then Nero kicks out the disk saying the the burn failed. Here is a copy of my last error log.

Prodisc sux. It's easily one of the most hated/worst media you can buy. Try Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Sony Fuji and Maxell is fine if
they are made in Japan.

this COULD be a problem as well, memory is QUITE low and could be part of the reason why you are getting FAILED burns...would be a good idea to get another stick of memory if you can afford it~ on top of the other things mentioned already~ :)

Thank you for that, little off topic but w/e. But why waste money on a Sony when you can just buy a lite-on or BenQ, after all Sony just rebadges them.

This is the first time I've used this brand. The label says Fuji though? Up until now I've been using Ritek. At first they where working fine then all of a sudden I had a bunch of coasters.

I usually burn at 4x but this time I thought that I'd try something different.

Thanks I'll give this a try and see what happens. I had Roxio on my machine eons ago but it looks like there may be some fragments left behind somewhere.

They don't test the same, also waisting money? If you need a new burner or spare(possible?) This is a "Great" deal for one of the top 5 DVD burner drives on the market. Oh, creaky, let it go (Itchin for a flame). This was simply my humble suggestion to a forum members problem man. Find someone else to harass. (Don't cry for me)I'm not going anywhwere.

@paradyme, try doing a '3rd person' on the thread. then tell me how your reply was relevant. i'm not itching for any flames, but your attitude (as usual) is uncalled for. Why can't you just make subsequent replies without the attitude; i just don't see why you are unable to be civil.

Here we go again, I want to say that 1st off, "I don't owe you an explanation". But I'll see my response as perhaps educating you to the term relevant. The threads topic is......"Just started having problems "burning". (Notice: The forum member & thread starter gcolson, has no problem with my suggestion) My simple reply was to suggest a reputable burner on sale.(Duh) Sold on a reputable site (I purchased one myself). Here your taking your time to try and start a flame? Why? I as a member simply replying as anyone here would and you wish to police my post? I am not interested in having to reply to you directly whenever I post here at the forum. You for one should know better than to carry on like this(immature?). Your behavior exemplifies what I have described about you in the past. Then and now, I'm being made to respond to your blatant ignorance and senseless disrespect. Again why? Perhaps you should re-think the privilege you were given here, if all you seek to do is interupt the peace of a given thread with your babble. Again, find someone else to play with man. (I'm being nice.) Oh, and back to the topic:

@paradyme - enough's enough. Maybe you know me in real life or something ie maybe i drove thru a puddle and splashed you or something. I just don't know what your never-ending beef is. (well i could if i took the time to go thru past threads, i think i know which one sparked you off). Feel free to speak to the Admins about reactivating your account but when you do i would hope you treat them with some respect. And I do hope you take it up with the Admins as then they can look at your insulting replies.
I suggest you read this extract from the Forum Rules in the meantime -

pay special attention to this part of the line Quote: No personal attacks
- a few too many of those have been going on lately.

What's all the commotion about? Now everyone back to their corners!
Actually i was thinking of picking up a new burner in the off chance that it was the burner itself that was giving me problems so the Sony suggestion is appreciated. Just to let everyone know, when I found that I was having problems burning was the exact same time that my video card went. How can that be relavent you ask. Well ever since then, my computer as a whole has been performing pretty sluggish so it may be that I need a new computer (it's over 3 years old now).

that's cool. what we do is attack logfiles until we pinpoint the root cause(s) as not everyone is happy/able to just ditch the burner, plus just buying a new piece of hardware doesn't guarantee success if there are incorrect settings still in place, etc. Now the Nero log has been dissected by the guys, maybe it would be worth buying a new burner, the Sony even..

@gcolson
If you are going to get a new drive then I would have to say get a BenQ. Plextor (One of the higher end brands) uses BenQ drives. And no need to get new computer, just upgrade.

I think that I may go and pick up a BenQ drive today. It just so happens that the local electronics store hear has them on sale this week.
I still have two questions regarding the Nero log though.
One is, how can I make the changes so I cannot write any further than 4300M?
The second question is, how can I turn the DMA on for my secondary hard drive. I've gone through all the steps to turn DMA on before but this one drive eludes me.

@GlueEater - paradyme was escorted from the building..
@gcolson - re DMA, try fixing via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm
as to the 4300MB limit, If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space
