Ok....
a) Do you both have a Wireless Router? If so did you configure it and your PSP? so that your shareing the same WEP, or WPA Key(s)? If not then that's your problem right there. Please remember no fair sneking going using your Neghbors Wi-Fi illeagly!
b) Which Firmware(s) is your PSP? currently set to??

Firmware is the PSP's OS, there have been several versions since v1.00. The current version is v2.60. The reasion I'm asking this question, cause if you have a Homebrew / ISO Loading friendly Firmware (e.g. v1.00 or v1.50), you can use any number of Homebrew Browsers' (i.e. Tenchi, Wipeout Pure et-al),.
Firmware v2.00+ has a built-in Web Browser in it that's better then all the Homebrew Browsers' combined!
You can find out which Firmware Version you have by going to your (on the PSP?), Settings -> System Setings -> System Information.
In the case of v1.00 and v1.50, you'll have to google for a PSP Portal that you can use to get on the net with. Try Googleing!!
In the case of v2.00+ the DNS1 should be the same IP as your Router...

Well I sopose the simplest way would be to use the 'Easy Address Setting' in the 'Network Settings', this should get you up and running.
Again you'll need to have a Wireless Router for it to work a simple 802.3 Wired Router WILL NOT WORK!
Most Routers use 192.168.0.1 as an IP, however not all of them will use that IP! If you need more assistance I'd suggest checking the OEM of your Wireless Router, who should be able to provide you with information on how to configure your Router...

No it shouldn't. I'm useing my WLAN Router & xDSL Modem now on the 'ol Mainframe-002, 001 (an AMD Slot-A), is dismanteld in the US. =(
And, I can jump on with the PSP? at anytime. Mostly when I'm AFK in the 'Reading Room' if you catch me!!

These DNS errors are a real pain!
Hi all,
I've been following this discussion thread with interest as I too have a persistent DNS error i.e. A DNS error has occurred (8041040F). I've tried most of the obvious resolution strategies without success and am beginning to suspect that the PSP simply isnt compatible with my wireless router.
The PSP appears to connect okay (when using static IP address as it times out when set to auto/DHCP mode) - just throws out the DNS error when loading browser. Also, although my router is a 3Com 11g router it has a setting to work with both 11b and g wireless devices(PSP is 11b).
Any help or advice you network/psp experts could offer is much appreciated. A summary of my set up is as follows:
Router configuration details:
3Com OfficeConnect ADSL 11g Firewall Router
Software version: 1.11 (Feb 13 2004 21:57:50)
Boot loader version: V1.4
Wireless version: 1.0.4.3
ADSL modem version: 13.9.38
Hardware version: 01
Firewall: Enabled
Universal Plug & Play: Disabled
Discard ping from the Internet: Yes
WAN Connection Type: PPPOA
Status: CONNECTED
Note that I have reserved IP range 1-9 for static IP addressing (I assume the router allows both static and dynamic to be used simultaneously?)
LAN IP address: 192.168.1.254
LAN Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Server: Enabled
DHCP Range: 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.253
Wireless Networking: Enabled
Wireless Encryption: 128-bit WEP
Channel 11
PSP configuration details
Firmware: 2.6 (did have 2.5 but in an attempt to overcome DNS error I upgraded to 2.6 via PC, usb and memory stick etc)
Security: WEP
IP Address: 192.168.1.4
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Router: 192.168.1.254
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.254 (also tried using specific ISP DNS)
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Proxy Server: Do not use
Internet Browser: Start
The only other device connecting to my router at various times is my Gericom SmartPower 3.06GHZ laptop which has a 3Com wireless 802.11g card (so I assume that the router can service numerous wireless devices running at various speeds i.e. b and g devices at the same time).
Ok, over to you guys - many thanks in advance!
Best Regards,
Jon

Dudes, DNS problem solved!
Looks as though the schoolboys running the show at Sony have messed up with their psp WEP feature. WPA-PSK works fine - no DNS error!
If you're having the same probs then try switching to WPA-PSK protection (assuming you have firmware 2.5 or above).
Best,
Jon
