Help with Linksys WRT54G wireless router and Microsoft MN-720 wireless notebook adapter card

Hello all. I recently purchased a wireless broadband router for my new desktop. I purchased the Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I have a laptop in which I used a Microsft wireless card MN-720. When I first set up the wireless network I had a problem getting my laptop to go wireless, but I did some research on the microsoft website and it finally connected. Now the problem is that the connection speed is extremely low (like 1 Mbps). I don't understand why. Can anyone help. Maybe I need to purchase a different wireless card? Also, I don't know how to change the channel for the wireless router on my desktop. Does anyone know how to do that? And does anyone know where I can go in my computer to have file and printer sharing between the 2? Thanks a bunch.
