Hello. I am quite experienced with burning PS2 backups, but these ones looks like a challenge to me...
I'm talking about Star Ocean 3, Romancing Saga and Radiata Stories... All of them have the same problem... It freezes when the console tries to load a battle... All else works fine... It boots well and you can play normally until the part you have to enter a battle...

I have a modded PS2 and burned them with a good variety of media... All other games that I've burned I've used the same media as the ones I tried on these and with very few exceptions all worked fine... The thing in common is that I usually burn the games with DvdDecypter at speed 1x... Maybe I should try speeding up?

I only used YUDEN000T02 and MAXELL002 (both 8X DVD+R) and burned at 4X, so far I've never experienced any issues whatsoever.

Yes, sometimes burning too slow like 1X can causes playback issues as well as burning too high like 12X - 16X.
