I have a Sony Vaio desktop and it came with Veritas RecordNow DX 4.11 which I found easy to useuntil I replaced the original Pioneer drive with a newer faster Sony drive, DRU-530 I believe. And now the Veritas software does not even see the new drive even though all the other non-Sony software does.
When I run drive info tool from Nero it shows the Sony drive as a BENQ DVD DD DW1620. I updated the firmware from B7C9 to B7W9 but the Veritas software still does not recognize the drive is there.
Also any links on updating, possibly for free, from version 4.11 ?

Are you wedded to RecordNow? There are many other programs available. If you're just backing up commercial DVDs you own, DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, and AnyDVD are all yoiu generally need. Only AnyDVD isn't free and its so useful you should own it even with RecordNow. There's also the Nero Suite of programs. There's a free trial available as well.

Veritas doesn't support RecordNow any longer. I think they sold it to Sonic. I'll see if I can find a link to Somic for you. Here you go:

It looks as though an upgrade is required. Honestly I would move to a better program like Nero. If you watch the online sales trackers like Ben's Bargains, it can be had for a few bucks. Nero 6 is still a very function set of programs even though Nero 7 is now out. Places like Surplus Software may have that at a reduced rate. I would just go with AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, and DVD Decrypter for backing up DVDs. Here are the links for those:

There's a holiday discount on AnyDVD until the 1st of January by using the code afterdawn. There a free 21-day trial as well but you'd need to still buy before the first to get the discount so you'd have to make up your mind quickly. :)

Thanks, I have Nero 6 already. I was use to using the recordnow software, but I won't lose any sleep deleting it and moving to other software.
