Hey everyone,
I am realllly new to this. I have imported by collection of cd's into itunes. Is there any way to convert/copy the songs to MP3 or WMA format without having to do it the long way - find the cd/song, burn it to Windows Media Player, transfer to MP3. If there are any suggestions, I would appreciate it ... you might have to go step by step, I'm pretty technologically/computer inept. Thanks.

You can convert them with a converter like dBpowerAMP

http://www.dbpoweramp.com/dmc.htm

But it will result in quality being lost. I recommend re-ripping them with the best: Exact Audio Copy.

Look here for more info on that.

1) iTunes was made intentionally for the iPod.
2) of course they are on your hard drive. How else are you going to get them onto your iPod?
3) You don't have to rip them in mp3. You can rip them into any compatible format and add them to your library

@mel31 - not at all sure what you're asking but here goes...

When you imported your music into iTunes it will have encoded it into MP3 or AAC or something (whatever you specified in the preferences) and stored the tracks on your hard drive. If you right-click one of your tunes and choose Info (I think) it tells you where the file is stored. To get the files out you can simply drag them from iTunes into another folder where it makes a copy for you (just discovered that myself).
